Import clips from Sony HXR-NX5E missing sound

    GerrardLFC Level 1

      Hi!

Thanks to Adobe for bringing us Premiere, but in 2012 I feel that importing clips shouldn't be so annoyingly difficult.

I have imported clips using "import" and "media browser. Both ways leave me with image but the audio is "not there", or sometimes very "crispy/digital". Same clips view in VLC player works fine, but the sound is not coming from my headphones. For some reason it's using the internal speaker, but it sounds OK. I use sony HXR-NX5E, Premiere CS 6 and I'm on win 7 64bit. Not sure what soundcard I'm using.

Update: In prelude (never used it before) I can see soundwaves and hear the sound?!? It's low, but can be used. Now....what can I do to get it into Premiere and keep the sound intact?

      Thanks for any insights....

      G

              1. Did you copy the entire folder structure from the camera's memory card to your hard drive, or did you just copy the video files themselves?
              2. The duration of your sample clip is interesting -- is it correct?
              3. Are any of the clips long enough to be spanned -- are they stored across multiple files?
              4. The rest of your clip specs are similar to the specs of my NX5U video clips.

              Jeff

                Hi!

Thanks Jeff for your help. I found out that upgrading from MasterCollection (Premiere) 5.5 to 6 made a difference regarding this problem. The files now import correctly. Under MC 5.0 and 5.5 they don't. Annoying!

For others still struggeling with 5.5 and the same problems I have no solution, but in reply to Jeff:

                1 Tried both:

                a) Copy all folders and files from the card

                b) Imported only the main mts file

2 It's correct. Bad examplefile, but same problem on the other files with longer duration (check Media Info below from another file)

3 No, but the camera have two card bays. All content was recorded on this one card. I can't believe something was recorded on the other card. That would be ackward and the files collected from one card work in Prelude (poor audio) and VLC as they are.

4 So that rules out the media. Problem is the software/hardware/OS?
