1. Re: Any hints of a CS6 edition of Jeff Schewe's Camera Raw book?
Jeff Schewe May 30, 2012 3:18 PM (in response to station_two)Ok...here' the thing...
(and I'm not entirely permitted to yet make this statemen just yett)…
But…
There's not going to be a "Real World" Camera Raw for CS6 sorry, it's out of my hands.
That's a fact of life…(sad as it may be). And I am a bit sad about it...
But, there's hope…due out Oct 2012 (or so) is a book series entitled "The Digital Negative" and later, "The Digital Print".
The two book series is intended to overcome the lack of a new RWCR CS6 book (and extend the raw processing a bit further).
More news when I can post it...

station_two May 26, 2012 1:19 AM (in response to Jeff Schewe)Thank you, Jeff, very gracious of you to share this. While it's a bit disappointing to know I'll have to wait five or six months to get my hands on these books, the news about a two-book series is most exciting and welcome, especially the part about extending the raw processing a bit further. That digital print book sounds very enticing already.

Yammer May 26, 2012 9:18 AM (in response to Jeff Schewe)Sounds good to me, Jeff. I bought the CS3 book, and never personally felt the need to buy an update, but I'd defintely go for a more workflow-orientated book series, like what you describe. Sounds ideal.

stormy.boy May 26, 2012 10:59 AM (in response to Yammer)Pre-order on Barnes and Noble: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-digital-negative-jeff-schewe/1110854943?ean=9780321839 572
It's on Amazon also with description, but Peachpit Press will be fastest, I think.

Mollysnoot May 28, 2012 1:10 AM (in response to Jeff Schewe)Set up my pre-order already.
Big shame about the Real World series Jeff, I for one have found the series to be invaluable.

P Moloney May 28, 2012 12:41 PM (in response to Mollysnoot)I considered RW camera raw (CS4) the most useful factual photoshop book ever! Almost all areas of photoshop deal with technique and not science and there is a real need for an in-dept book about ACR. It is great news that "The Digital Negative" is being published Jeff and many thanks for all your insights over the years, most recently about the strange performance issues with ACR 7 & 7.1!!!
Regards,
Peter

Thanks for the kind words...when Bruce Fraser passed away, he had asked me to continue the book for as long as possible. I did the CS3, CS4 & CS5 editions. However, a lot of things in publishing have changed and with the advent of Lightroom, Peachpit and I decided (well, THEY decided not to do the Real World series anymore) that the topic of raw processing in Lightroom and Camera Raw made more sense. Lightroom has had a major impact on raw processing and unfortunately, people using Lightroom don't buy Camera Raw books.
Since the basic processing pipeline are the same with very similar usability and functionality, I decided that they could be combined into a single book. I had done something similar with Real World Image Sharpening (also taken over for Bruce) and was able to show Lightroom and Camera Raw sharpening together.
Conrad Chavez, who took over the Real World Photoshop title (also not being done for CS6) and I are thinking of way to keep Bruce's stuff available. Obviously the previous editions are out there as paper & ebooks. For those who remember Bruce fondly, there is a web site: http://www.brucefraserlegacy.com/ that was set up largely by his friend Steve Johnson (thanks Steve).
And while I am including Lightroom in The Digital Negative, it won't be a book all about Lightroom...mainly just the Develop module for raw processing and a few other things. For a book all about Lightroom I still suggest (and personally use) Martin Evening's The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 Book and Seth Resnick's The D-65 Workflow Not Workslow in Lightroom 4.

stormy.boy May 28, 2012 8:15 PM (in response to Jeff Schewe)Jeff,
Thanks for your information about the Real World series. I look forward to your upcoming The Digital Negative and the second volume about printing.
Are you and Martin Evening going to have a Ultimate Workshop book for CS6?
Just in passing, I'll mention that I also miss Peachpit Press not continuing the Ben Willmore Up to Speed Photoshop CS# series. That was a handy little book.

We've talked about it but...since I'll be working on my two books and Martin has done his two books (for Photoshop & Lightroom) and since he and family are moving to the country (to escape London during the Olympics and other reasons) the timing isn't right for a timely version of the Ultimate Workshop. So, I really can't say...we'll see. But if it happens it won't be in the normal time frame...
