    Your thoughts on sharepoint?

Sorry about this question in this forum but this is a trusty forum for me.

I am working for a large company as a web deveoper / designer and for the last 5 years have been using open source and php. Due to the regular poor implemention I was ask to build a quick and efficient public website which I built on IIS using PHP and concrete5 as a cms. The solution is awsome.

However as the IT department has their own view on platforms and structure they want to use sharepoint as an intranet and the have the public website attched to it at a later date.

I want to know anyones thought on sharepoint as a user and on a design and development basis.

      Thanks

As an internal platform and as a user of DW since version 4 (not CS4), I would say that Sharepoint is hands-down the best intranet solution.  If your company is standardized on MS programs and you want to effectively share documents and allow for simultaneous editing of documents (in real-time), Sharepoint is the only way to go.  It's fairly straightforward with setting up, like a CMS.  And unlike a internet website, it doesn't need to look nice or have fancy jquery, ajax, or HTML5/CSS3, it just has to be functional.

The second half I don't agree with. Sharepoint is an excellenet intranet solution, but why attach it to the front end?  That I don't understand.
