Unable to get flash reinstalled

I'm unable to install latest version of Flash from Adobe website. I have a MacBook running OS X/10.6.8 w/Safari and Firefox browsers. I did a complete uninstall of past Flash versions using the Adobe uninstaller and deleted all related files in the library and cache I could find. Every time I try to install the installation begins but only progresses to 3-4% complete and then stops w/"Installation failed" statement in progress bar.

Please try the following steps:

1. right click on "Install Adobe Flash Player" icon and select "Show Package Contents".

2. Navigate into the /Contents/Resources/ folder and double click the Adobe Flash Player.pkg file.
