1. Re: Look of image-based subtitles in Adobe Encore
Stan Jones Jun 4, 2012 8:35 PM (in response to Scrublitzer)What pixel size are the images?

2. Re: Look of image-based subtitles in Adobe Encore
Scrublitzer Jun 4, 2012 11:58 PM (in response to Stan Jones)The pixel size of the PNG files is 1920x1080, the FAB Image Script is also defined for this resolution.
Furthermore, I'm working in a 1080p 24 project.

3. Re: Look of image-based subtitles in Adobe Encore
Scrublitzer Jun 9, 2012 3:09 AM (in response to Scrublitzer)Maybe FAB Image Scripts are not the ideal way to import subtitle image files. I don't know...
The other options to import subtitles into Adobe Encore are Text Scripts and Image Scripts. Does anybody know a tool to produce an Image Script which can be read and imported into Encore? I would like to try this option because maybe it works better than FAB Image Scripts.
Thank you for help!

4. Re: Look of image-based subtitles in Adobe Encore
Stan Jones Jun 9, 2012 6:01 AM (in response to Scrublitzer)You can create a small test of the image option. Just follow the help instructions for the format to create an image script. If that doesn't fix the issue, you know it is something else. I don't know of a tool, but only because I have never looked.

5. Re: Look of image-based subtitles in Adobe Encore
Scrublitzer Jun 9, 2012 1:53 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Of course you're basically right with creating a small test to restrict the problem. But at the end of the day I have to convert subtitle tracks for a whole feature-length movie. That's the reason why I asked for an additional software (particularly because each tool produces slightly different subtitle images, technically and visually). I have already tried a few tools but I didn't find a possibility to create an Image Script which can be imported into Adobe Encore.
After all, I wonder if it is actually possible to produce image-based subtitles with perfectly sharp, smooth edges for Blu-ray mastering in Adobe Encore.
Once again, thank you for all hints and tipps! I would be grateful for any further help and suggestions!

Scrublitzer Jun 21, 2012 10:49 AM (in response to Scrublitzer)By the way, the option to import the subtitles using an Image Script ended in the same result.
Damn...

Stan Jones Jun 21, 2012 5:20 PM (in response to Scrublitzer)Thanks for reporting your (disappointing!) results.
No time to test this, and can't shed any light...

8. Re: Look of image-based subtitles in Adobe Encore
Scrublitzer Dec 21, 2013 8:37 AM (in response to Scrublitzer)Hello,
may I ask if anybody knows any news regarding this issue? Meanwhile, it's 18 months ago that I started this discussion.
Has anybody tried to create image-based subtitles in Encore CC?
Thank you!
Mark

9. Re: Look of image-based subtitles in Adobe Encore
Stan Jones Dec 21, 2013 8:47 AM (in response to Scrublitzer)There is no Encore CC; Encore CS6 is the last version. That's means no development or bug fixes.
See the Encore CC/CS6 FAQ:
http://www.adobe.com/products/encore/faq.html
I don't recall anyone providing any definitive guidance or testing. I still have it on a list, but have not tested.

Scrublitzer Dec 21, 2013 2:36 PM (in response to Scrublitzer)Thank you very much! I still wonder why there are not more people with the same problem. This feature has been part of Encore for many years, but it's obviously not working properly...

13. Re: Look of image-based subtitles in Adobe Encore
howard.z Dec 30, 2013 5:34 AM (in response to Scrublitzer)No, I am surprised that this hasn't been sorted out. My feeling is that I must be doing something wrong. I have been playing around wiuth subs in encore, and the text feature has been producing the best results. Check this out:
Even with this I had to adjust the size, kern, etc, and sometimes the adjustments were really small. I would love more advice on the subject.
Thanks!

Stan Jones Dec 30, 2013 11:01 AM (in response to howard.z)I still haven't had time to test this.
Your latest effort is looking pretty good.
I do think that subtle changes in settings make a difference, which has led me to guess that all the sizes/placements are critical. When they don't work, Encore scales and messes it up.

15. Re: Look of image-based subtitles in Adobe Encore
howard.z Dec 30, 2013 2:59 PM (in response to Stan Jones)I have been amazed at how subtle the changes need to be. Sometimes, I have been adjusting the fonts sizes to decimal points, like 24.66. The kerning still doesn't make that much sense to me. I find that encore doesn't always accept my changes in kerning. Mr Jones, do you have any advice on the kerning feature? Thanks!
The scaling is certainly an issue. I hope that I can find some really good settings and then I will share them with everyone!
