Currently running an x58 system with 24GB of ram. I never see ram usage climb above 40% but in task manager it does cache the entire lot which is good. I’m going to upgrade to x79 soon and looking at motherboards some have 4 slots and some have 8. Will PrPro use 64GB of ram properly with a 6C/12T processor or will 32GB be enough as I’m not “limited” at the moment? I want to buy it all now (not leave 4 slots empty till i finally have a need for more ram) and will probably upgrade the whole system again in 12-18 months at the latest.
Also does PrPro scale better with high frequency ram or is 1600mhz good enogh?
I think you'll find After Effects taking advantage of all that RAM more than Premiere Pro will.
So if the ONLY program i use is PrPro i will be more than fine with 32GB of ram?
For most projects, probably.
If you working with 4k from RED, Arri Alexa or other high end digital cinema cameras you may want to stick with the 64.
But honestly, there are very few folks who need a system that beefy who won't be using After Effects for something. Even if you never have, you may find that it becomes an invaluable part of your post production chain.
