1. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
FubarGuy Jun 7, 2012 2:29 PM (in response to Community Help)I'm trying to have text inside of a Scrollable Frame, that also has an inset text frame/box with Wrap inside of the main copy. it loses the text wrap when viewed on the iPad however - is there a way to maintain that warp around the inset box?

Bob Levine Jun 7, 2012 3:13 PM (in response to FubarGuy)Are you trying to get it to wrap while scrolling? That’s not going to work.

4. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
Bob Levine Jun 8, 2012 9:22 AM (in response to FubarGuy)You need to group the callout with the text and allow it to scroll with the text. You do this BEFORE pasting it into the container frame.

FubarGuy Jun 8, 2012 9:46 AM (in response to Bob Levine)Yup, that's what I've been doing, I think the Wrap settings just aren't honored once it's pasted into the container. I tried converting the content to a PDF but it won't Paste Into the conntainer frame. Here's a short recording of what I'm going, if you don't mind taking a look. Thanks btw!

7. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
FubarGuy Jun 8, 2012 10:25 AM (in response to Bob Levine)Sadly, no joy. I made an entirely new InDesign doc and recreated all of the elements from scratch & then applied the Overlay as before. (I had previously copied in content from a client's Print file, unsure if they had done any weirdness to the text frames that may be causing the issue.) This is just a learning exercise for me, it's not a "real" job so i'm not stressed over it, just wish it would behave!

I am wondering if Colin could upload the files from his tutorial so taht we can see how he did it.

Bob Bringhurst Jun 8, 2012 3:48 PM (in response to newhousesu)I'll ask Colin to post the source files on the DPS Cookbooks site. You might also want to check out the example in the Advanced Overlays issue of DPS Tips for a different perspective.
I'm going to test text wrap now in a scrollable frame now. I'll let you know what I come up with.

10. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
Bob Bringhurst Jun 8, 2012 4:11 PM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)In my testing, wrap text works only if the text wrap object in the content frame is fully visible in the container frame. If the object is hidden by the container frame, the wrap goes away. In fact, if I cover half of the text wrap object with the container frame, the text wrap works on the displayed part and doesn't work on the hidden part. I'll see what I can find out from testers.

Diego Souza Mello Jun 8, 2012 6:25 PM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)I was trying to do the same thing on a layout I am working on but gave up on it. The solution I came was to export the text and wraps as JPEG and reimport it to InDesign.

12. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
Laubender Jun 9, 2012 2:32 AM (in response to Diego Souza Mello)@Diego – Ok, in case of text wraps a scrollable frame is a problem.
But do not give up on it so soon.
Solution: don't use text wraps to construct the layout you want. There are plenty possibilities to achieve what you want.
One example:Screengrab 1 (InDesign page)
The main text flows through three text frames threaded together.
The second text frame is not a simple rectangle. Its shape is changed with the direct selection tool.Same goes for the "inset" text frame.
This all is cumbersome, but it works.
Screengrab 2 of the same page in Adobe Content Viewer after scrolling a bit:

Bob Levine Jun 12, 2012 8:46 AM (in response to Laubender)Better workaround that I just discovered. Anchor the object that you want the text to flow around.
Just tested and it works.

camparson Aug 7, 2012 9:16 AM (in response to Community Help)when I use the scrollable frames they create dead spaces which make it impossible to flip onto later pages if you are within those areas. are there any solutions for this issue???

20. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
Laubender Oct 31, 2012 2:51 AM (in response to messengerpublications)@messengerpublication – you need a little workaround to accomplish this.
See the following steps:WHAT IS NOT working for the first line of your text:
Anchor a rectangle to the first insertion point of your text frame

The problem: Text Wrap only affects lines of text after the first line!
Solution: add a line or paragraph before, set it's text size to 0.1 pt and add baseline shift to the whole text in your text frame, then anchor your rectangle to the first insertion point:
Hope, that helps!

21. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
Folobo Dec 17, 2012 9:31 AM (in response to Laubender)I have a strange problem: i have a big and heavy (many mp3) scrolling frame.
In the same page a have a button that play a fullscreen video.
I do not understand why the video fail.
I do not solve but I try to:
- Place the button in a MSO
- Place the scrolling frame in external indd file and use it importing the indd file (anyway can be a correct way when i have a big sc in every page of my mag?).
What could be the problem? I have 2 different level in the page - level could be a problem?
Many thanks.

22. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
Junior_Rivera Dec 19, 2012 2:51 PM (in response to Community Help)Hi,
I created a scrollable frame in InDesign that slides Horizontally. I am trying to add a white fade to both of the sides in the document so that the content inside the scrollable frame appears to be fading out. I created a fade in Photoshop and i placed it on top of the Scrollable content. It looks great in InDesign but when i preview it in the content viewer the white fades go behind the scrollable frame. Is there a way to fix this or an alternate solution?
Thanks, The feedback is much appreciated!

23. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
Diego Souza Mello Dec 19, 2012 3:08 PM (in response to Junior_Rivera)Hello DJ001plus,
In order to make that work, you must transform the Fade into a Multi State Object with auto play. The MSO will be a duplicate of the fade and must be placed in a layer in front of the scrollable frame. Why don't you create the fade in InDesign?
You should download "Digital Publishing Suite Tips" on the app store.
https://itunes.apple.com/br/app/digital-publishing-suite-tips/id436199090?mt=8
I holpe that helps.

25. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
bfento Jan 23, 2013 1:50 PM (in response to Bob Levine)Anchoring works fine, unless the hidden part of the content frame exceeds the edge of the document. In my case I have a scrolling frame that takes up nearly the entire height of the article, and the content frame is even longer than the container frame (obviously), but so long that it exceeds the height of the entire document. More clearly stated the hidden content extends beyond the bottom margin of my document, or in other words, runs off of the edge of the screen.
All of the anchored objects falling into that area get pushed back up onto the screen, and out of sequence causing a visual logjam.
Did that make any sense??? I hope so.
I hope this fixed moving forward, but I think it's more of an InDesign matter and less of a DPS tools issue.

28. Re: Scrollable Frame overlays
semicrunch Aug 25, 2014 7:01 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)This is the information I was looking for. Once I understood the problem, I could easily find a work around (added a "cut out" to the offending text frame that matches the shape of my off-pasteboard sidebar). Thanks for your help!
