    .BAK File Help Needed

To paraphrase Tupac Shakur, "I don't have no fear of death. My only fear is coming .bak reincarnated."  Apparently that's the problem I am having with files being overwritten on the server. My supervisor asked me to dig up everything I can on .bak files, which turns out to be not much. Under what circumstances does Dreamweaver generate .bak files, what kind of information does each include, and what is the sequence each is displayed in.

DW does not generate .bak files.

Can you elaborate on what problem you're facing, which version of DW and which operating system?

Do you have Contribute-compatibility enabled in DW? Site > Manage Sites > Edit > Advanced Settings > Contribute.

The Rollback feature in Contribute (and DW I believe) generates .bak files to rollback to earlier versions of files.

I'm using Dreamweaver CS5.5, Version 11.5, Build 5344, on Windows XP.

I do have Contribute-compatibility enabled in Dreamweaver.

The problem I am trying to understand is the naming convention of the .bak files. If you look at "01B-Assumed..." which of the two files is the most recent: ...0001.99d8.bak or ...0002.433b.bak? Just clearing up that confusion would be very useful.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Date modified should tell you what you need to know. 3/9/2012, 4:25pm is more recent than 10/25/2011.

I know that seems obvious, but somehow this file was loaded to the server by someone who only has server access, and does not have Dreamweaver or Contribute. We are trying to determine why there are Dreamweaver artifacts at all. In addition, all the other files have the correct dates; only this one is out of place and shows a different one. Which is the correct VERSION?

O, man, that sounds confusing, and I am writing it!
