The error is more likely with your display driver, as the message says, and not with PP itself. Look to that display driver to resolve the issue.
Hi all, I don't want to claim victory yet but I think my problem has been resolved.
Originally I downloaded CS5.5 trial version in this new laptop but decided to uninstall it and install CS5 which I had been using in my old laptop.
When the display started freezing up I went on to unistall CS5 and at that point I noticed that I had the Adobe Installer left over from the CS5.5 trial version which I had not removed before installing CS5.
This time I removed the Installer together with CS5 and reinstall CS5 anew.
Since then the problem has not re-occurred. I guess there is an Adobe Installer for each product and version.
Great news, and hope that the problem has been resolved.
When uninstalling any part of the Creative Suite, it's usually a good idea to download and run the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool a few times, rebooting between each run.
