JSS1138 Jun 17, 2012 5:48 PM (in response to conleec)That setting only applies to clips imported after it's changed, not to those already imported.

conleec Jun 17, 2012 5:58 PM (in response to JSS1138)Crumb. Is there I way I can throw out four days of Red dailies and re-import them, while maintaining the syncing that I've already done?

JSS1138 Jun 17, 2012 6:01 PM (in response to conleec)No, but...
You can set up a keyboard shortcut for Scale to Frame Size. Then select all the clips in the bin and hit that shortcut.

conleec Jun 17, 2012 6:16 PM (in response to JSS1138)Okay, that's helpful and a major benefit over Avid's workflow: the ability to apply video effects in the bin. Will try that tomorrow morning. Thanks.
It still strikes me as odd that it only works with clips imported after making the preference change. I guess it's a flag set per-clip on import? Because you can obviously create multiple sequences of different specs after the fact, and presumably it'll scale to those?
On a related note: I think I made the wrong choice when creating my sequence. I chose the larger of the two frame sizes, so the smaller footage scales up. I think I should have created a sequence of the smaller size so the larger footage scales down instead. Any easy way to convert this sequence? What happens if I create a new sequence and copy and paste the cut into it?
What is the carry-on consequences of these choices? When I do DPX exports later for VFX pulls, will I be locked into one size or the other, or does it export at the native framesize of the source footage anyway?

Agreed. Just create that new sequence and Copy/Paste your work into it.

Export frame size is attached to neither the media nor the sequence. You set it on export to whatever you want. However, every clip in the sequence will be exported at that size. It's not an EDL, it's a new frame of video with the specs you set in the export settings dialog.

conleec Jun 18, 2012 12:35 PM (in response to JSS1138)Jim,
This didn't work, unfortunately. I created a keyboard shortcut for Scale to Frame Size and selected the oversize clips in my bin and tried to apply the setting, but it doesn't work. They still land on the timeline unscaled.
Could it have to do with the fact that everything I'm using is merged clips?

SAFEHARBOR11 Jun 18, 2012 1:42 PM (in response to conleec)You should be able to right-click a clip on the timeline and select "Scale to Frame Size" from the drop down. At least on the PC

conleec Jun 18, 2012 1:45 PM (in response to SAFEHARBOR11)Yes, but that's going to be hundreds of clips over the course of this feature edit, and I have no way of knowing which clips on the timeline have or have not been scaled already until the director walks in and tells me the framing is all jacked up (which is how I found out the automatic scaling wasn't working in the first place).

conleec Jun 18, 2012 1:53 PM (in response to Kevin-Monahan)Thanks Kevin, but I also SHOULD be able to select "Default Scale to Frame Size" too, and that doesn't work unfortunately.

Don't know. Try it with something else, see what happens.
