Trouble matching project settings to clip settings - CS5

    Am_I_Lame? Level 1

I want to edit a clip I shot on my Canon Vixia HF200 camcorder in 1080p.  The camcorder's manual, Windows Explorer, and Premiere Pro all indicate the dimensions of the clip are 1920 x 1080.  This is how I set up my project (with a custom preset as I can't find a standard one like this for some reason; why are all the 1080 presets only 1440 wide?).  When I preview the clip in the program monitor, however, it displays with black bars on the sides.  I've included a screen grab showing the clip in the program monitor and in Windows Media Player.  If I change the settings to 1440 x 1080, the bars go away, suggesting the clip is actually 1440 wide, not 1920.  Why the conflicting behavior?  I.e., why does Premiers recognize the clip as 1920 wide in the project panel but not fill out the prorgram monitor with the clip when using 1920 wide project settings?
