Ironically, I've experienced the same problem today for flashplayer and shockwave. I've tried every solution offered by Adobe online with no results. My browsers are IE and Firefox, Win7 OS. The problem occured after receiving a notificdfation to update my Flashplayer. Since then, cannot download Flashplayer or Shockwave. Cleaned the registry and the programs were deleted in Control Panel and yet when I go to System Restore, the system thinks the programs are still there and won't intiate and finish a system restore to an earlier date. HELP!
Download the offline installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player- windows.html#main-pars_header and save it to disk, then close all browser windows and run the downloaded installer.
Check with the Task Manager's Processes tab that no iexplore.exe process is running in the background.
Note that you must also close any messenger apps, chat clients, Skype, etc. to run the installer.
