Let's say I have an imported png in the shape of a state. Of course the png is a rectangle, but the state (most of them anyways) isn't a rectangle.
Then I want to cloak the whole state to make it greyish. But not have the grey cloak go outside the irregular shapped boundries
Then I want to cut a hole in that grey cloak to highlight a specific region of the state. And then a different hole through the grey to highlight a different part of the state.
Finally I would have a bunch of these to do (oh I don't know 50?).
I'm trying to find an easy way that doesn't involve making a lot of hand cut things that need to match pixel for pixel the odd shapes.
It seems like some combination of blending modes and or a mask should be able to do this. But I can't seem to find a way.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks for the idea. I'm trying to keep this all timeline based. So it is easy for others to come along after me and adjust which bits get highlighted and which get cloaked.
I may have found a way using two copies of the same clip on top of each other -- one with a tine applied. And inside having the cut out area use the erase blendmode.
