1. Re: Intensity Pro -- Red RAW Client Monitoring
JSS1138 Jul 7, 2012 12:55 PM (in response to conleec)I suspect the Intensity suffers from a fatal flaw. You cannot set it to do on-the-fly conversions from the input it receives to the output you need for your monitor. It acts simply as a pass-though, making the device largely worthless.

conleec Jul 7, 2012 1:56 PM (in response to JSS1138)Hmmm, that's what I was afraid of.
Anybody have experience with the AJA cards and/or the I/O Express? Especially, does anybody have experience using these cards with both Media Composer and PP CS6? I'd like to find a card that works well with both.
I absolutely LOVE the Matrox box except for the current fatal flaw that it will not allow trimming in Media Composer while audio scrub is enabled. But it FLIES in CS6!
Crumb, why can't these things be simple?

CSTeam3 Jul 7, 2012 4:34 PM (in response to JSS1138)Actually, in FCP Intensity will output whatever you set it to, independent of the timeline settings. So somehow, it is possible. I simply wish Adobe could figure out how to do this in Premiere.
I would trade all the new CS6 features just to have it be able to output the same way FCP does in this regard.

JSS1138 Jul 7, 2012 4:49 PM (in response to CSTeam3)I suspect this is more of a Blackmagic diver issue.

CSTeam3 Jul 7, 2012 7:58 PM (in response to JSS1138)Not entirely sure it's all BM's fault. I think it has as much to do with the architecture of the main application. Even in AE you set the Video Preview frame rate/resolution separately from the Composition setting.

conleec Jul 7, 2012 9:55 PM (in response to shooternz)Not sure. But if so, it makes me doubly sad that my really nifty Matrox MXO2 Mini currently doesn't work with Media Composer 6, 'cause it totally kicks butt in Premiere Pro CS6.

9. Re: Intensity Pro -- Red RAW Client Monitoring
conleec Jul 7, 2012 10:36 PM (in response to shooternz)Well, I have to be able to use MC 6, as it's my bread and butter in the feature and episodic world. But when I started using PP CS6 with my Matrox Mini Max I'm not lying I was IMPRESSED by how smoothly and fluidly it was playing back 5k Red footage natively. Absolutely amazing. Anybody who works soley in PP CS6 need look no further, IMHO, than the Matrox MXO2 line for their I/O. Stunning performance.
Now if they could just get it to work in Media Composer (again, sigh, as it USED to work perfectly in MC5.x) I'd be the happiest camper.
Can anybody comment on AJA solution in PP CS6? Anybody having great luck?

I'm not sure that's the best way to solve this issue, though. Your suggestion places the burden of conversion in the software and the CPU. AE does not offer real time playback, only RAM preview. PP is a different story. It can and does offer real time playback of many things, no render required. To keep that working as efficiently as possible, the burden of conversion must be placed with the hardware, and the settings for such with the hardware driver.
