1. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
Curt Y Jul 9, 2012 10:20 AM (in response to Ian R. Brown)Been awhile since I had CS3 but do not remember that option. Perhaps what you are thinking of is the "start Bridge at login" option. THat option is now in Bridge under edit/preferences/advanced.
Be aware that with this option you will have to physically close Bridge for updates to install, and changes you make in Bridge will not be remembered unless you use File/exit rather than just closing the Window.

2. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
Ian R. Brown Jul 9, 2012 11:24 AM (in response to Curt Y)Thanks Curt.
It's a long time since I used CS3 but I'm sure that there was a preference to launch both simultaneously.
The login launch is no use to me as I rarely use PS and so having it launch every time I start up my Mac would be a bit disconcerting.

3. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
Noel Carboni Jul 9, 2012 11:28 AM (in response to Ian R. Brown)If you need Bridge, could you not just launch Bridge directly, instead of trying to have it "tag along" somehow when Photoshop is launched? Bridge knows how to launch Photoshop for things you ask it to do... Just a thought.

4. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
Curt Y Jul 9, 2012 11:30 AM (in response to Ian R. Brown)Confused. In first post you stated you wanted to launch Bridge and PS at same time. Now you say you rarely use PS.
With option I gave it launches Bridge at Startup. Is not that what you wanted?

5. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
Ian R. Brown Jul 9, 2012 11:41 AM (in response to Curt Y)I have always considered Bridge and PS to be inextricably linked.
On 99% of the rare occasions I use them, I require both apps.
I know it's no big deal to physically launch both of them but it seems a backward step when at one time I could just hit the PS icon in the dock and both would appear.
Anyway, it appears from both of your answers that it can't be done.
I was just concerned that I might be missing something.
Thanks.

Ian R. Brown Jul 9, 2012 11:51 AM (in response to Ian R. Brown)Vindicated at last!
I just found this video tutorial on the web:-
Here's a screenshot of the CS3 preferences showing the option:-

Not quite. As I said in the first post this option was moved from PS menu to Bridge menu starting in CS4. This just launches Bridge at startup but not PS.
As Noel said you can run either program independantly.

8. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
Ian R. Brown Jul 9, 2012 1:42 PM (in response to Curt Y)Not quite sure what you mean in the first paragraph.
This option when selected meant that once Photoshop was launched, Bridge automatically followed it.
There is no option in Bridge which automatically launches PS when Bridge is opened.
Anyway, thanks for confirming that I have not missed some new setting.

9. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
Curt Y Jul 9, 2012 6:20 PM (in response to Ian R. Brown)I think the confusion lies in the word "launch". That is meant to mean launch of the OS when you turn on computer, not launch of Photoshop.
When this option is selected Bridge will be running in the backround and may not be evident as open. Not sure how you look at this with a Mac.

10. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
station_two Jul 9, 2012 6:27 PM (in response to Ian R. Brown)Ian, you're making a mountain out of a darned molehill.
Just launch Bridge first, then Photoshop will open as soon as you open an image file. Done with it.

Just FYI: Pressing Command Tab will show you all your running apps right in the middle of your screen for as long as you keep the Command and Tab keys pressed.

12. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
Ian R. Brown Jul 10, 2012 12:30 AM (in response to station_two)Agreed, but it's often the little things that aggravate, as Josephine said to Napoleon.
Pretty much a perfect answer.
Sorry Noel, just realised you said virtually the same thing.

13. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
R_Kelly Jul 10, 2012 1:38 AM (in response to Ian R. Brown)Your right about cs3 just launching bridge when photoshop starts as opposed to the cs5 bridge preference for starting bridge at login before photoshop is started.
One solution would be to record an action or script to launch bridge and then use File>Scripts>Script Events Manager to launch bridge when starting photoshop cs5.
For example record an action in photoshop by just clicking on the File>Browse In Bridge command.
Then add the action to the Script Events Manager. (tested on windows cs5)

14. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
Ian R. Brown Jul 10, 2012 1:46 AM (in response to R_Kelly)Thanks for that.
Incidentally, the forums appear to have changed since my visit several months ago.
Windows and Mac now seem to be sharing the same one. (I use Mac).
Is this so or am I just not looking in the correct place?

15. Re: Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?
R_Kelly Jul 10, 2012 2:15 AM (in response to Ian R. Brown)Your in the right forum. Adobe merged the mac and windows photoshop forums into one photoshop general discussion forum before the launch of cs6.
