mjarrott Jul 9, 2012 4:54 PM (in response to Rodieck)Rodieck,
Just to be clear, when you mention that you "start entering text at a certain point" are you referring to using the type tool to a) edit an existing text field already populated with text, b) draw the bounding box for a new text field, or c) single-click on your artboard to create a text field.
a)
b)
c)
I really hope those pictures make sense, just trying to understand your issue fully.
I don't have my second laptop with CS5.5 on it, but I see that the Type Tool in CS6 has the I-beam and then a small bounding box around it with a black triangle in the upper left corner. I looked in preferences to see if cursors could be adjusted and could not find anything myself. Someone else may know a way to do this, but I would suggest just getting comfortable with starting your text fields from the black triangle in the upper left corner of the Type tool.
I hope this helps,
Michael

Rodieck Jul 9, 2012 6:52 PM (in response to Scott Falkner)Hi, Scott. I do have "Snap to Point" turned on, but this is my normal way of operating, in CS5 as well. The other two are both off.

Rodieck Jul 9, 2012 6:57 PM (in response to mjarrott)Hi, majarrott. I'm talking about using the text tool to "c) single-click on your artboard to create a text field." I can get used to this new way if necessary. But I don't understand why the change was made -- i.e., what advantage it might have.
