View>Display Performance>High Quality Display should fix how the images look on your monitor. In any case, the display in InDesign is going to be lower that the original image, but it will use the original image for printing.

i have changed this setting (thanks) but i am not seeing it getting fixed. i /can/ see sometimes where the display has to "snap to focus" if i am scrolling or something (i have 13 GB in the mac pro) but on these images they still seem extremely pixelated.
i am also noticing others that appear to be highly pixelated as well...
Are the links up to date?

it was old links apparently which i assume had to do with my re-organizing my images.
i gather that ID downsamples the images in order to give you an additional clue about this...
