Trash and re-set your preferences. Your boot drive will become the default scratch disk drive. Then you can re-set your preferences to use the external drive of your choice again.
It was a very good idea to set an external drive as the primary scratch disk, but what ever possessed you to also set the preferences file on the external drive too?
Hope you can do undo that mess. I wouldn't know how to get into that predicament even if I wanted to.
What possessed me to also set the preferences file on the external drive? I didn't realize I did.
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate fast and knowledgeable help.
But I stumbled on a solution. Since posting in this forum, I tried loading the program again. I don't know why but I just happened to think of holding down the Ctrl key while it loaded.
Sure enough, it worked!
I immediately changed the settings and have restarted the program several times without any problem.
All I can figure is that I must have read somewhere something about overriding settings by using the Ctrl key. I really didn't know this when I wrote my first post but anyway, it works.
Thanks again for your help!
That's good news, and thanks for reporting back. Your post will help others in the future.
