    Grouping Smart Collections

    reindeer4 Community Member

I want to make a bunch of smart collections in Adobe Bridge CS6.

Is there a way to put the actual collections inside of some group hierarchy to keep things from getting unwieldy?

      Thanks

Not sure exactly what you are looking for, but a collection is just reference list of addresses.  The files themselves are not moved.  So I don't think you can do what you are thinking.

That's a very good, concise way of defining what a collection is, Curt Y.

Much better than the one I've used in the past, "a collection is only a saved search."

I'm making a bunch of videos for songs and skits, and I want to gather my assets into collections - but I may have songs 1-10 and varied types of skits, so ideally I could have a sold folder/directory with ten Smart Collections in it, and other folders for each group of Smart collections (say comedy skits, drama, political etc) otherwise I'll soon have 50 or more smart collections on my screen.

So that's what I was asking - is it possible to make a directory structure and have different smart collections within each folder?

              Thanks

Therein lies the answer to your problem.  You are in need of a DAM (Digital Asset Manager) or a MAM, (Media Asset Manager), which Bridge categorically is not.  Bridge is just an image browser.

For a robust DAM, look into applications like  WIDEN,    ThirdLight,    Canto Cumulus,   etc.

Remember that Bridge began as nothing more and nothing less than Photoshop's browser.

ok - thanks for the info

If necessary, I can make my smart collections broadefr and design my tags so they can quickly filter down to a given song or given type of skit.

                  Thanks again.

I think this would be a great feature to have.

I'm just getting into using Bridge and can already aprteciate the power of using Bridge as a file browser. But to group Smart Folders together would help allow me to manage and archive projects rather than deleting useful but perhaps not currently needed smart folders just to maintain a uncluttered folder list.
