fail U44M2I218 updating CS6 dps desktop tools
Narr GM Coro Aug 7, 2012 10:35 PMI watched an adobe.tv demo of Folio usage, and decided to try it.
I booted InDesign purchased as part of my CS6 upgrade, and opened the Folio Builder window.
It asked me to log in with an AdobeID. I did so, and got a message that my folio software was out of date. I tried letting the Adobe updater find that InDesign needed an upgrade -- it said not. So I pressed the link, downloaded the 2.03 updater, stopped InDesign, and tried to run it.
The updater immediately failed, with an Adobe Application Manager window referring me to a log file. I opened the log file, and it said:
DPS Desktop Tools CS6 2.03 Update
There was an error installing this update. Please quit and try again later. Error Code: U44M2I218
Great help, as in 1964 mainframe software great. An error code with zero explanation? Try later?? Some phase of moon? I would let you be aware that in a past I am actually deeply experienced at designing highly complex software -- natural language/graphical etc.. You haven't told me a thing here.
I try the web, and that error code exists for Adobe, but has no reference for this particular DPS package, on or off the Adobe site. There are occasional terse, quite unpleasantly phrased, and entirely uniformative Adobe person responses for other packages - no further comment to make on this aspect, but arrogance should be ashamed.
While I am trying to get proper window names for this article, I start InDesign CS6 again. Now the Folio Builder mini-window is open, left over from last run. It actually seems to operate -- this in common with some other failed packages mentioned on the web with this code.
- what on this earth does U44M2I218 _mean_?
- what is 'later', as in 'try again later'?
- how would I know that this update actuallly worked, or what update level I am actually on?
- why didn't the normal Adobe Update Manager take care of recognizing and unstalling this update, as it has quite many already with Design/web Premium CS6?
Don't you think this is a bit of a mess?
Thanks for a fix. I'll go now and post this on some bug reporter recommended, which I would no longer be able to find if I hadn't kept the original fail window open. Oh. It's the generic we-don't-really-want-to-hear-so-fix-it-yourself maxi-page. I think I can drill for an ability to speak, given enough patience.
Well, i couldn't. I ended up right back here. Thinking about the thousands of dollars and many, many hours I and others have given you over the years, and the personal involvement.
