1. Re: help with encoding 5.1 from quicktime file
peacebreakerr Aug 9, 2012 8:17 AM (in response to peacebreakerr)To follow-up, I discovered how to playback surround in Media Composer, but it seems only to apply to playback, not exporting. Exporting a quicktime ref with the surround channels still comes up in quicktime as 6 mono channels. If I bring this into Media Encoder and set to encode to an H264 with 5.1 AAC, will it map the channels to 5.1 in the same way Media Composer does? So ch1 to L, ch2 to R, ch3 to C, etc?

Robin Remde May 22, 2013 8:35 AM (in response to peacebreakerr)I also have a similar question - I have the multiple mono channels which are tagged correctly (L,R,C, etc) in Quicktime and visible as a 5.1 file. If encode with Media Encoder, will that produce correctly allocated surround sound, or do I need to create a 5.1 soundtrack in Audition?

Rallymax-forum May 22, 2013 10:30 PM (in response to Robin Remde)Mov and Mp4 files have a field that describes the channel mappings.
If AME is reporting 6mono channels that info is missing.
There is no standard for that order so it might just work but might not match the desired channel order from Media Composer to the AME Exporter codec you choose.

Rallymax-forum May 22, 2013 10:32 PM (in response to Robin Remde)I'd take the 6 channels and make sure in Audition by making a 5.1 there.
