Couldn't this just be done by creating a js file in your events directory to call to? Just like you would on a normal web page. Still new to this myself but I am familiar with js.
i found it in the help files....last place you look. ;)
Are you saying you found your solution in the help files? Or are you still stuck?
If you are still stuck, please provide more details about the "intranet site" you speak of. It's not clear what protocol you need to use to "search".
Shiv, thanks for the reply. I found how to do a basic search and add the function. The basics are I have to have a couple of different search functions in this tool. One for google which was easy but now I am having issues with a intranet site search.
Attached is the code but it returning no results. Here is what the browser says when a real search happens from the site.
So i am missing something in my function. Any clues?
So when you use that url along with the query string
What do you see in the browser?
Are you expected to pop up a browser to show the results?
What did you do to get the Google search working.
The reason I ask these questions is that I'm not clear about how you need to make a request and how you get a response. In other words I'm still not clear about the response protocol.
You're obviously able to use the HTTP GET protocol to make the request for your search. Which then tells me the server side will respond with a result. But is this result and xml or some kind of delimited document containing the results or is the response simply an html page?
In the browser I get the results.php but it did not search obviously correctly because it returned nothing but when I search on the actual site it returns 10 items.
For google I did this code below.
This is page that compiles the results. not visible outside our company but so you know where it is going. // http://support.lscsoft.com/results.asp
Ok it looks like you're simply navigating to another page. In order words, what you expect to see after you hit your (Flex) search button is that a new browser instance pops up and you see the search results page of the respective system.
If that is the case your code should work. Make sure that you're sending in the correct parameters in the url.
Please do the following and let me know the result.
Open a new browser instace
Paste in the following url (use a valid search string) into the address bar
Hit the Enter key
If this gives you the expected result then your code should work.
If not, you need to either find out what is different when you use their search page versus what you just did above. Or talk to the people who build that system and see if they can help.
Essentially, you need to be able to work it similar to the steps you did above.
Searched the site for Downloads Sorry, no results found.
Your Search - Downloads - did not match any files on this site.
* Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
* Try different keywords.
* Try more general keywords.
* Try fewer keywords.
Above is the message I get. I should have 7 matches for that as I do when i use the seach text area on the site.
This is what returns in the address bar when i search from the search funtion on the site.
Another thing that will give you a clue is looking at the html of their search page.
is the action attribute of the form GET or POST?
What are the other "fields" within the <form> tag?
