    Custom Special Character

    Y Rose Community Member

I'm creating a document in which every second or third page, needs to say which lesson it is. For example on page 1 it needs to say lesson 1, and on page 3 - lesson 2, and on page 6 - lesson 3. I created a master page for these pages, and I want to know if I can put in a custom special character which basicaly says that each time this text box appears, it should be the next number.

      I'm using Indesign CS5

Make each lesson a new section (in the Pages panel, select the page then select Numbering and Section Options from the flyout menu). Give each section a section marker matching the lesson. Now, on your master page, go to Type > Insert Special Character > Markers > Section Marker.

But what happens if I have to insert 2 new pages somewhere and all the lessons need to be renumbered, do I have to renumber the sections? Also if I have to do it manually with the numbering and section options, I can just type it in manually onto the page itself?
