Also, a brand new computer will often have many things auto-starting that you don't need... and will also have OLD device drivers based on the date of the "production image" that is copied to the hard drive
Go to the hardware sites for your (unnamed) components and make sure you have updated device drivers... do NOT rely on Windows update, go direct to the hardware vendors
If you have Win7 64bit PRO or higher, try Microsoft's Virtual XP
.
This is only ONE example of using Virtual XP http://forums.adobe.com/thread/702693

2. Re: CS4 - Freeze after Opens no matter WHAT I do!
John T Smith Aug 18, 2012 8:15 AM (in response to HollywoodTinman)Even if you don't have Win7 64bit PRO or higher, you might want to go into the icon's properties and have Win7 run CS4 in XP compatibility mode... not quite the same thing as using the Virtual XP download, but designed for older 32bit programs
And... please remember to provide information like what I linked to at the top of my last reply each time you start a new subject... people really do need to know details to be able to help

3. Re: CS4 - Freeze after Opens no matter WHAT I do!
John T Smith Aug 18, 2012 8:42 AM (in response to HollywoodTinman)Also, make sure your CS4 products are up to date
All Adobe updates start here and select product, read to see if you need to install updates in number order, or if the updates are cumulative for the individual product http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
For CS4 you must also update the Roxio component http://forums.adobe.com/thread/400484
