Hi, and welcome to PrP. Hopefully you will like it as much as I do. I switched from Avid DS and FCP. There is a little learning curve to know where all the buttons are, but you should be up and running in no time. Make sure to watch some videos here:
It will get you going in the right direction and search around, there are lots of learing tools out there.
For your question:
Just a shot in the dark, are you outputting to a format that supports 8 discrete channels?
Check this out about a minute in as well.
Thanks for the links... helpful stuff. To answer your question, Yes it does support 8 discrete channels. I get the same type of file (Video and Audio) whether I choose the Match Sequence settings box or if I just do the custom settings. The only difference is the Match Sequence every time spits out a 2 channel audio each time, where the custom I just tell the number of channels I want, and it does in fact work properly.
I'm trying to dummy proof a work flow for producers/editors so they don't have check their settings every time they export.
Wondering even though you have 8 discrete channels, are they really? When setting up your sequence did you go to the tracks tab and adjust the setting there? You can only adjust the way the audio tracks map and behave in a new sequence, I do belive.
Just another thought about your producers and editors outputting. I would set up a watch folder with your specific settings in Media Encoder. That way they can out put whatever they want in PrP, and the Watch folder will make it what you want.
I would like to use the check box for "Match Sequence Settings"
Don't do that. Always set up your export settings manually to make sure they're exactly what you need.
