What is the make/model of you video card?
Which exact version of Mac OS are you running?
in the title of my post : 10.7.4 thank you!
the video card is the one that comes with the MacBook Pro June 2012 -- NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
It hasn't changed since I got the computer. One day Photoshop CS5 is fine, then the next day, it isn't?!?
It's entirely possible for the display driver file to get corrupted, though it's not common.
If you have Applejack, run it now. If you don't know what that is, skip this suggestion for now.
If you have Disk Warrior, or Cocktail or Onyx, run them now.
You might try booting off the install DVD and running Repair Disk with Apple's Disk Utility from there.
If it is indeed a corrupted kext file (the driver), then you can try running the 10.7.4 Combo Update over your existing OS install of that same version. That gives you fresh files as needed.
If none of that works, then you are looking at having to do an Archive and Install of the OS from the DVD, which will put you at 10.7.0, so you'd have to run the 10.7.4 Combo Update again to get you to where you are now (OS version wise).
Make sure you back up everything right now. Do you have time Machine already configured?
Bill -- Thank you -- I do have time machine. I ran the disk utility and
now Photoshop launches fine!
thank you again.
I don't believe his name is Bill, but thank you for reporting that station_two's expert Mac advice was helpful. He's a great asset here.
