1. Re: How to import markers from soundbooth cs5 into audition cs6
ryclark Aug 30, 2012 7:56 AM (in response to evan.fotis)Do they show up if you open the .wav files in the Waveform view instead of in Multitrack? Time markers are different between the two modes. File embedded markers only show up in the Waveform view where they locked to their position within the file. Multitrack markers, however, are generally attached to the time line. New markers placed in the Waveform view do show up in the Multitrack view as long as you have Show Marker Lines in Editor View enabled from Preferences/Markers & Metadata.

So, how can one get either wavs (with markers) orxml markers into audition cs6 that where created in SB?
I did a bit of checking, and I'm not so sure that there's a way to do this directly at all, I'm afraid (although I'd be happy to be proved wrong...)
SB markers can certainly be exported into an .xml format, but I'm not at all sure that Audition could read them like that, although I haven't tried it. It's just possible that the .xml format files might be readable by Audition's multitrack view - as ryclark mentions, this uses a different format for the markers related to the timeline, rather than the wav files themselves, but nobody's ever proposed this as a solution.
And that's the problem really - different metadata formats. Questions about this have been asked before, and have remained unanswered - which is what makes me think that basically, you can't do it. Thing about marker files in general is that there is no prescribed standard for them; they aren't included in standard wav file metadata spec, but are tagged onto the end of the file and read separately, and no two apps seem to handle it the same way.

evan.fotis Aug 30, 2012 9:04 AM (in response to SteveG(AudioMasters))I appreciate your input.
..So in SB wav files where added into a multitrack which was the mixed down and exported as a single wav.
SB opens it and all markers are there. AU opens it with NO markers. XML markers again are not recognized by AU neithre in multitrack or waveform editor.
How is it, that Adobe uses these xml marker format which AE & PP will recognize (cause they were meant for the suite) but not AU!.. especially now that SB is dumped and AU is supposed to be its successor even though they coexisted previously.
its as if PS will not see guides in PSD from FW or AI..So this yields the question, what format markers will AU recognize and import? any workaround that does not invovle manually adding them in AU? perhaps renaming to txt or something that AU will understand?

Difficult with integration issues... part of the problem is that, of course, Audition wasn't integrated into the suite when SB was its audio editor - and as such didn't require to be suite-compatible.
Because I don't ever run into these problems - simply because I don't do video - I don't have all of the answers. I do have a question though; if you open your SB file in CS6 Premiere, do you have the same problem with the markers? IOW, can you use the new version as a converter, since I believe that it's possible to transfer markers back and forth (isn't it???) between Premiere and Audition in the new version. Or is that screwed as well?
So this yields the question, what format markers will AU recognize and import? any workaround that does not invovle manually adding them in AU? perhaps renaming to txt or something that AU will understand?
Probably the best person to answer this is Suite Spot, because he's the one that has done all the development work on AATranslator, and has probably forgotten more about this than the rest of us know! What I'm pretty sure of though is that SB doesn't feature in the converter.

5. Re: How to import markers from soundbooth cs5 into audition cs6
_durin_ Aug 30, 2012 11:19 AM (in response to SteveG(AudioMasters))In both cases, embedded and sidecar XML, Soundbooth only created "Flash Cue Point" marker types that were used to trigger events or navigation points in Flash projects. At this time, Audition doesn't recognize these marker types. Since these are stored in XMP, let me look at what it might take to expose them in Audition.

6. Re: How to import markers from soundbooth cs5 into audition cs6
evan.fotis Aug 30, 2012 3:58 PM (in response to _durin_)thanks everyone, did some testing, AE imports wavs nicely with layer markers and their names as well.
PP has the clip markers in the markers tab with no name just timings and also on the track in the seq area (Timeline)
Tried "edit clip in Audition"option, will open wav with NO markers (lame)..
it seems those markers are usable in all Adobe apps except audition.
Will give a go to the AAtranslator too.
