PPCS4 Capture issue- no device control
sheryl fillmon Aug 31, 2012 7:35 AMMy company upgraded me to a Dell Precision T3500 with Win 7 a few weeks ago. I have PPCS4, I shoot on a Sony PD170, capture on my internal drive - 1TB (plenty of space).
My issue is that PPCS4 won't recognize my camera... here's the weird part... it SOMETIMES does, or did. 2 days ago, PP wouldn't recognize my camera, message on top of capture window: "No Device Control" and also "Stopped" and then also I can sometime push recorde button and it ACTS like it's recording but nothing in the window, and it's (PP) not controlling my camera. (Holy cow... something strange is happening as i'm typing, but first let me finish my original thought) ... So I checked my setting on my capture... put it on DV capture instead of where it was HDV and it captured fine (the 2 days ago that i was talking about)
But YESTERDAY, same thing, but it doesn't matter what I change the Capture to (DV or HDV) it still won't capture via PPCS4. I checked forum and tried the Legacy suggestion, I checked my cameras iLink and I didn't find any way to "turn it off" my camera says its simply a way for the camera to be able to be controlled by other devices... of which I never had issues with on my old computer, NEVER, making sure camera is not powered on until PP is fully up... and other suggestions but nothing has worked today and yesterday.
Let me get to the "something strange" I mentioned in first paragraph... the little window which pops up when you first power up your camera when it's hooked up to your computer keeps popping up. I close it, but then it pops up again, That didn't happen yesterday so I'll check my 1394 cable after I post.
I have used this same set up for far too long, i've changed nothing but my comptuer, so is it issue with the Dell, or Win 7?
Quick note: on the same forum question I was on yesterday, one guys suggestion was very very simple and effective... Capture with the native capture your computer comes with. Once I read that, I thought, holy cow, I used to do it that way at home and it works every time without any issues! then I import video into PP.
Some specs:
Thanks for any help and I'll post again if it happens to be my cable.
