    Pages not viewing consistently after uploading new page

    B_B_Cardwell Level 1

      Hello,

      I recently switched out a page on a website created in Dreamweaver CS4 for the Mac. (I realize that I am several versions behind but I am not financially able to upgrade at this time.) Now the pages are not viewing consistently as designed.

      The titles of the pages along the navigation bars (both at the top and bottom of each page) are designed to be two lines if longer than one word. Since I switched out a page, the pages will sometimes view correctly at the top bar or at the bottom bar but never correctly in both places. When I switched out the page, I deleted the old page name and typed the name of the new page rather than relinking. (The new page title was actually shorter than the old page title.) I then upload the entire site. This issue happens while using Explorer, Firefox and Chrome and both on the PC and Mac.

      This is my first time to post to the forum so I hope my dilemma was presently clearly. As a beginner in Dreamweaver and self-taught, I'd appreciate any help!

      Thanks,

      Belinda

          In FF your top menu looks like this:

          2012-09-01_0238.png

          The bottom menu/footer menu looks like this:

          2012-09-01_0239.png

          you need to click on the two images to see them properly.  Now tell us how do you want your menu to appear?  Do you want it as in the bottom picture?

          Hope you can answer this so that a solution can be given.

            Yes, I would like the menu/footer to appear as the bottom menu/footer is shown above (the darker green bar).

            Just to be sure of the lingo...does FF mean Firefox?

            Thanks for your help.

              OK to force a new line after each word, you need to enter  a br code as shown below:

              <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="900">

              <tr bgcolor="#e7f6fd">

              <td class="top"  width="40px"><a class="tmenu" href="about.html">About</a></td><td align="center"><img src="divider.gif"/></td>

              <td class="top"><a class="tmenu" href="intuitive.html">Intuitive<br>Spiritual<br>Counseling</a></td><td align="center"><img src="divider.gif"/></td>

              <td class="top"><a class="tmenu" href="sacred.html">Sacred<br>Contracts</a></td><td align="center"><img src="divider.gif"/></td>

              <td class="top"><a class="tmenu" href="souldetective.html">Soul<br>Detective</a></td><td align="center"><img src="divider.gif"/></td>

              <td class="top"><a class="tmenu" href="past.html">Past<br>Life<br>Regression</a></td><td align="center"><img src="divider.gif"/></td>

              <td class="top"><a class="tmenu" href="energy.html">Energy<br>Healing</a></td><td align="center"><img src="divider.gif"/></td>

              <td class="top"><a class="tmenu" href="trinity.html">Trinity<br>Table<br>Experience</a></td><td align="center"><img src="divider.gif"/></td>

              <td class="top"><a class="tmenu" href="spiritual.html">Spiritual<br>Growth<br>Seminars</a></td><td align="center"><img src="divider.gif"/></td>

              <td class="top"><a class="tmenu" href="gluten.html">Gluten-free<br>Living</a></td><td align="center"><img src="divider.gif"/></td>

              <td class="top"  width="40px"><a class="tmenu" href="links.html">Links</a></td>

              </tr>

              <tr>

              <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF" width: 900px; height: 728px colspan="19"><img src="woods.jpg"/>

              </td>

              </tr>

              </table>

              I have high-lighted the code to insert though, I might have missed something but you get the idea.

              Do the same with the bottom menu so that everything is consistent in every browsers.

              Yes FF means Firefox.

              Hope this helps.

                Since she is using XHTML (see the self-closing image tags - <img src="divider.gif"/>), then the correct usage for the line breaks would be "<br />", otherwise the page will not validate.  Of course, for the page to validate, you'd have to also fix other invalid usages, like -

                <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF" width: 900px; height: 728px colspan="19">

                which probably should be this -

                <td style="background-color:#FFF;width: 900px; height: 728px" colspan="19">

                and this -

                <td class="top"  width="40px">

                which should be this -

                <td class="top"  width="40">

                and this -

                <tr bgcolor="#e7f6fd">

                which should be this -

                <tr style="background-color:#e7f6fd">

                and this -

                <td align="center">

                which should be this -

                <td style="text-align:center">

                and this -

                <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="900">

                which should be this -

                <table style="width:900px; margin: 0 auto; padding:0;  border-spacing:0">

                and finally, I'm troubled by the use of colspans (<td bgcolor="#FFFFFF" width: 900px; height: 728px colspan="19">) which, when used sparingly are OK, but more than a couple in a table is big trouble!).
