I think not. It is absolutely vital that users get over their initial shock and adopt a workflow where the original unredacted file stays around, and the redacted file is stored as well. So, advising them to save back over the file is not a good idea for most companies. We do get people asking how to "unredact" their own files.

Yes it is possible to disable the suffix. Please follow the below mentioned steps
- Click Document Category
- Under Redection uncheck" Adjust Filename when saving applied redaction marks"

Pranav, thank you very much for answering my question. Here is a follow-up question: is it possible to make it save the file directly instead of asking the user to 'save as' and giving a dialog box about replacing the existing file?
This is something inbuilt to pop up the save As dialog Box and it would come everytime, there is no way to supress this box and continue direct saving.
