The problem is you lose the sharpness in the eyes, which is important. I use a feature of Colorista 2 a lot to achieve this effect called Pop. When you set it to a negative value, it smooths lines and imperfections, but does retain the sharpness in important details.
I was just a bit surprised at the accidental result. Why it works that way is a question I would like to see answered. I don't see where there is any green being keyed out, and besides, it would appear black, and what the heck does transparency have to do with anything?
My Sony HDR-FX1 has a setting to smooth skin tones, and I use it sparingly. This was just a bit odd, is all.
