I can open my Raw files in PE9 however the files will not open in RAW converter. I have the updated plugin and my Canon camera is supported. How do i open the files in the Raw converter.

You don't open files in the conververter : you simply convert them into the DNG format. You can batch convert a whole folder.

You mean your RAW files open in the PSE9 Editor?

This is a symptom of having too few pixels vertically on your computer screen. You need to change the size of your computer screen, in pixels, to around 800 pixels vertically. I am not sure what the lower limit is, but 800 ought to work. There are some netbooks where you will not be able to make this change.

Yes sorry I ment to say my Raw files open in PSE9 editor and not in ACR. I have tried converting them into DNG but the same thing is happening.

Download and install the latest free Adobe DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original CR2’s as backup).

Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.1

Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.1

You can convert a whole folder of CR2 images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

I don't think this addresses the stated symptoms.

I have a monitor plugged into my netbook. The monitor seems to have sufficient pixels. However as its plugged directly into my netbook I'm not sure What effect this has. Are you suggesting I should not use my netbook as its screen is too small?

To be sure, check the display properties in Windows.

                              - right click somewhere on the desktop screen to get the popup where you should see the option : properties.

                              - choose parameters and see if the vertical resolution can be set at minimum 800 pixels.

Can you try testing directly from the Editor menu using a jpeg:

                                File >> Open As

Then navigate to a jpeg and choose Camera Raw from the file type drop down.

If you get the same results then it’s probably a short display problem as suggested by paige, or you have more than one version of Camera Raw.8bi installed. You can check by navigating to the File Formats Folder.

                                C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 10\File Formats

N.B. Program Files on 32 bit systems.

As I have never been in this situation, I can't say for sure, but if it doesn't work, then the netbook is most likely the problem.

If you have a monitor plugged into your netbook set that as the primary monitor and use that instead of the netbook display.

                                    What operating system?

Some older netbooks do not allow you to increase the resolution to that of the primary monitor. I know, I have one.

Okay that might be why the second monitor isn't making any difference.

                                        Thanks for the info.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I have found my netbook max resolution to be 1024 x 600. Therefore a short display seems to be the issue. I have tried making my second monitor the primary one, however it doesnt seem to like this. I have tried opening a jpeg in the editor as a raw file, this also just opens in the editor. I am running XP pro. I shall keep trying to get my second monitor to act as the primary as I see this as the only solution to this problem.

You might do google search for your netbook and using a second monitor or maybe your users manual has same hints about how and/or limitations when using a second monitor.

On my labtop with a secondary monitor you can set the second monitor screen resolution higher, but it might be as dj_paige suggested that some netbooks won't allow that.
