Can anyone help me. When you go to file and select open, InDesign brings up it's normal browser window. If you highlight an InDesign file, the icon appears and you get a little bit of info on the file. My question is, can you add to, or change this info to be more meaningful?

You don't tell us what computer platform you're on. If you're on a Macintosh, you can buy a third party utility called Default Folder which is great for remembering which folders you have been to recently or to create favorite folders. But you can also turn on more information in the Open dialog like this:
