Flashplayer 10.1 for iMac

Facebook and Twitter friends are directing me to videos on these network sites. When I try to see the videos what pops up is an update saying I need Flashplayer 10.1 and offers instant download but the download is an .exe for Windows. I went to Adobe and downloaded 10.1 for Mac, installed it and then tried again to watch the video but all it did was show the Windows download page again and jammed further progress.
