I'm running a great mac system, AVID/Nuke/Mocha/Final Cut, and even Premiere pro and AE run great.
It's just the horrific render times in Premiere when rendering a dynamicly linked shot.
It's just the horrible export times when trying to export any sequence with dynamic linked shots in it.
The slow updates in the Premiere timeline when switching between premiere ans AE
The horrible slow time to send something from Premiere to the media encoder que.
I'm expecting HUGE improvments when we upgrade to CS6
What I'm spouting is nothing new.....there have been many posts about the horrible slowness of the dynamic link.
I meet or exceed all the system requirements.
Let's agree to disagree: Adobe Dynamic Link is extremely useful and usable thing, though one can't rely on them in every situation. I.e. if dynamically linked composition is a complex one, e.g. with several light layers (not mention 3D ray traced ), and rendering preview in PrPro timeline takes more than several minutes, it's wise to replace it with digital intermediate.
If you want to get deeper insight instead of just expressing your emotions, have a look at this thread. Pay attention to Todd's comments.

I have an i7 2.66, 12gb ram, 9800GT+, and Dynamic Link is unusable, I have to agree. I understand that it's poor workflow to use it in intense animation settings- using multiprocessing in AE to a lossless file is much better- but it's WAY to slow for simple, 4-6 layer simple lights and text title cards. There should at least be a way to quickly render out your DL parts without manually setting ins and outs and rendering each one.
Otherwise, PrPro to Media Encoder dynamic link is a DOG. Way to much lag time to transfer it over.

Text can be very slow to render if you use Ray-tracing. Switching it back to Classic renderer can greatly speed things up.

True, Ray Tracing is very slow on my card. It still is slow on Classic render though, at least realtive to the speed of using Titles in Pr.
There should at least be a way to quickly render out your DL parts without manually setting ins and outs and rendering each one.
It is not prohibited to drop them all once again from Project panel somewhere to the sequence tail, slide Work Area bar accordingly and hit 'Render Entire Work Area' so as to render just them. PrPro will then recognise dynamically linked comps as rendered ones in actual movie.
The old thread that was referenced above involved Todd and I in a dialog about DL. My workflow now is to use DL to create and finesse AE effects in real time. Going back and forth between PP and AE.
The when I am happy with the DL AE comp I will export the AE comp as a movie and replace the DL clip in the timeline. Very fast and easy process.
If need be I can use Edit Original to then link back to the AE Project (from the AE movie on the PP timeline) for some more work.
With my system (HP Z820, 64GB ram, Nvidia GTX 570) its faster for me to do renders in AE then it is for me to do it (with DL AE clips) when exporting the PrP timeline.
I was not aware of the Edit Original feature.....very interesting..

When I go under file>export>meda I don't see any options to embed anything, am I in the wrong place?
If I remember correctly, when Exporting from AE to a movie file, the default option Project Link allows this "Edit Original" behavior.
I cant tell you about Nuke since I dont use that workflow. There is the option to select Include Source XMP Metadata, but I havent explored the result of making that selection.

The File Management system in 5.5 has been fundamentally recreated in 6.0
I'm not sure how much faster since there are other unresolved issues related to memory management.
All of my DL compositions in PP via AE in the 5.5 Master Suite are unusable. I will have to finish the projects in 5.5 before jumping to 6.0.

That's pretty good advice in general.
I always use Dynamic Link. I think it's great for maybe up to 8 layers total vid, fx, images, text (that's a rough estimate.) I remember in 5.5 doing a 12 layer greenscreen composite (8 layers of 1080p) with some animation and found Dynamic link unusable.
But just finished 2 commercials with a layer or 2 of 1080 30p vid, 1 to 4 layers of Red Giant particular, 1 to 2 layers of text with a blur animation. And Dynamic link worked great.
Could just be that the short form 1 to 2 minutes is something Dynamic link can handle, not sure how long folks who are having such a hard time with DL are.
and my specs are not great either, i5 3.2, 24gb's ram, nvidia gt240 but I always use dynamic link and i'm always editing. I do have hardware acceleration hack which helps.
