John T Smith Sep 20, 2012 8:41 PM (in response to Susan Verner)I don't use MJPEG, but I did save a previous discussion link that may (or may not) help http://forums.adobe.com/thread/730396

Steve Grisetti Sep 21, 2012 5:33 AM (in response to John T Smith)What settings are you using when you export your files from MPEG Streamclip?
Unless you're using the settings listed in our FAQ, you won't get good results in Premiere Elements.

3. Re: Premiere Elements 10 AVI file with MJPG CODEC
Susan Verner Sep 21, 2012 6:22 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)Thanks, Steve! I thought I was using the correct settings in MPEG and haven't had this problem before, but I tried running a clip through MPEG with the new settings from the link you pointed out and the audio now comes through in PE 10.
The only problem now is the audio still doesn't show up in my project. I renamed the new AVI file with the old AVI name, thinking that if the format of the clip changed the project would access the new clip instead of the old one, similar to the way you can edit a photo used in a PE project and the edited version appears in the project. But that didn't work. I understand that I will have to run all 30 clips through MPEG Streamclip with the new settings, but is there some way to get the project to recognize the new clips without starting over?

Steve Grisetti Sep 21, 2012 7:15 AM (in response to Susan Verner)I don't know. I don't think so. What are the specs of the audio on these clips? (You should be able to see this if you open the files in G Spot or Media Info, both free downloads.)

5. Re: Premiere Elements 10 AVI file with MJPG CODEC
Susan Verner Sep 21, 2012 7:52 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)I spoke too soon. I thought the new clip had audio because I was seeing an audio track in the timeline (which I was not seeing before saving with the new settings in MPEG Streamclip). But there is no sound.
When I open the new clip in G Spot it says the audio codec is PCM Audio:
I'm guessing there is something different about the video camera used to shoot this video but there must be way some way to get audio in PE 10. Like other postings, when I play the clips, before changing the settings in MPEG Streamclip, using VLC I'm getting the audio.
Any other ideas?

Steve Grisetti Sep 21, 2012 7:57 AM (in response to Susan Verner)What happens if you give the program a couple of minutes to conform the file?
This should work. I don't know why it wouldn't.

Bill Hunt Sep 21, 2012 8:04 AM (in response to Susan Verner)I am with Steve on the Conforming of the Audio. This can take a moment, depending on the original Audio CODEC, the Sample-Rate and Bit-Depth, the Duration and the speed of one's computer. This article goes into more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/726693?tstart=0
Good luck,

9. Re: Premiere Elements 10 AVI file with MJPG CODEC
Susan Verner Sep 21, 2012 9:10 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)I don't think this has anything to do with conforming. I've been working with a new project one or two 15 second clips to see if the new settings work, and the conforming takes place without issue.

11. Re: Premiere Elements 10 AVI file with MJPG CODEC
Susan Verner Sep 21, 2012 9:51 AM (in response to John T Smith)I did try that. The screen shot in #7 is from the new project just with the one 15 second clip.
What I haven't tried is going back to the source disks and starting over. Maybe that is what's required but not feasible for this project.

12. Re: Premiere Elements 10 AVI file with MJPG CODEC
Susan Verner Sep 21, 2012 11:33 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)I just discovered quite by accident that if I bring in the same avi clips to PE8 the audio works fine. I discovered this while trying to burn another avi file to a DVD in PE10 and it wouldn't work.
Does that provide any clue?
