Pulling my hair out with this,and i havent had much experience in writing scripts for indesign.
I have a job which is a data merge and some of the entires are too long for the field,what i want to do is run a script which will resize the entries which offset.
Is this possibe to using a script and on the document with it open.
Thanks in advance
This happens to me often with addresses in direct mailers. A script shouldn't be necessary. A few solutions I use:
1) Make the actual placeholder of the text ridiculously large so that no matter what text is placed, it will never overset;
2) If using CS6, use the "auto size" feature of the text box to make the box automatically become larger when potential overset text occurs; or
3) a nifty trick I discovered with GREP to "crunch" the text to fit a smaller size. I wrote a blog-piece about it: http://colecandoo.wordpress.com/2012/02/18/square-pegs-now-fit-into-round-holes/
