Encore CS5.1 Blu-ray Replication Problem - Master Failed BDA Compliance Testing

    JamesValis Community Member

      I've authored a Blu-ray in Encore 5.1

I purchased and used BluStreak Tracer with Export BDCMF

I sent the BDCMF to Cinram for duplication.

From Cinram I received "Master Failed BDA Compliance Testing"

      The specific error is:

Verifier: Sony BD-ROM Verifier for FS and AV

      Version: Version 2.04 Build 0049

      Compliance: ERRORS DETECTED
      Errors: 1
      Warnings: 0

      INPUT INFORMATION:
        Source: DISC IMAGE
        Type: BD25
Layer 0 Logical Sector count: 9008416
        Path: Z:\01 TO_BE_BD_AACS_PROCESSED\SA_BPVZBG1001.1.A\Lovers Exile BDCMF\UD.DAT

      ERROR INFORMATION:
Code: ES1711: Dolby Digital (AC-3) and Dolby Digital Plus audio streams
Summary: The bsid field is not set to 1000b (8), or 110b (6). (See BD-ROM Part 3-1,
                  9.9.4)

How may I fix this problem? How do I get Enocre to set the bsid field to where the specs require it?

Are there any other work arounds to this particular problem as I am in a bit of spot because my client wants to distribute this fine disc we have created and Cinram will not because the Encore authoring does not appear to be conforming to the official specifications?  A fair bit of money is on the line.

I have consulted with Cinram techs and Robin at BluStreak.  Below is the response from the LA tech guy:

"To fix, I would suggest using something other than an Adobe product to encode the AC3 files. You can then check the BSID of the stream (which is where the error stems from) by using MediaInfo in verbose mode. It should report 6 or 8 where it is currently reporting 4. If the error can not be rectified, by our BDA agreement, we can not replicate the disc or print the packaging with BD logo."

Robin at BluStreak had wondered what version of Encore I had used and he speculated that, maybe, the latest version of Encore addressed this problem.  Does anyone know the answer to that?  He also suggested I contact tech support at Adobe to see if they could offer any solutions.

Is this forum the best way to get tech support from Adobe or is there some means of contacting them directly?

My basic plan of attack is to re-encode the audio in something else, figure out how to find what the BSID of the stream is and then, somehow, shove that audio back in the authored project all the while keeping it in sync with all the elements.  Not a pleasant task when viewed from my current perspective.

Here is a link with various support options:

Let's see if anyone can help directly here in the forums....

Well, thanks for replying.  I just sat on hold a Adobe support (there is no email address I can find) for 25 mins.  Got a person who didn't know Encore at all.  They transferred me to another department and that person asked for my email address and then asked if she could put me on hold while she checked something out.  I said sure, and she promptly hung up on me (not on purpose I hope but...)

Finally made it throug to tech support and they created a case number and they will call me when they have a solution.  I'm not holding my breath.  In the meantime I've got to find a solution.

The audio is encoded in the m2ts file so I’ve got to do the audio and video together.  I’m considering re-encoding via Encore but using H264 instead of mpeg but I’m not sure what audio encoding options are available as of yet if I go that route.

I’m first trying to establish the tools (mediainfo run in cli) to be able to evaluate what BSID is spit out.

Another option I’m exploring is to re-render the m2ts files output by Encore (located in the stream dir) in Sony Vegas and see if they conform to BDA spec.  I’d then have to replace the files in the Stream dir and wash it through BluStreak tracer but I’m not confident it will compile the CMF properly doing it that way.

A third option is to encode all the video via vegas, replace the footage in encore with the pre-encoded stuff (telling encore not to transcode it).  I'm not sure if I can do this in Encore though.

Again, first step is to get the tools to “see” the problem.

                Any advice is appreciated!

                James

I would look to Larry Applegate at Blustreak for guidance. I do not know Robin, but Larry is very knowledgeable based on his posts here. It has been my understanding that they undertand the workflow needed to workaround Encore's limitations. Thus Blustreak!

I hope we see an adobe response also.

Larry has passed the torch to Robin and Robin has seemed very knowlegable.  I will ask him if he's consulted with Larry on this issue.

Stan, you know Encore well.  I haven't had a chance to check into it but can I change the Blu-ray encode settings in Encore to H264 and specify a differenct audio stream than AC3?  Can I insert pre-encoded m2ts files into Encore and not have Encore touch them (i.e. transcode them) to create the Blu-ray.  I know this is possible in other Softwares when making DVD's but I haven't explored this in Encore in the Blu-ray context yet.

encore will do pass-through encoding with blu-ray, as long as the video file is blu-ray complient. i have done it before. but it can be really picky. cant remember if the files were m2ts though...

I've just been experimenting with Sony Vegas render .m2ts files and they come back with a BSID of 4.  This is SONY's software (head hancho of BDA specs) and I'm using the Blu-ray preset and it still produces files that aren't acceptable to their verifications system.  I'm flummoxed!

                        and pissed!!

Here is an update for any of you who might care:

I got an image through the verification process.  I had to encode all the audio as PCM.

Adobe support is working on a fix, or so they tell me, and there is an official bug number but, for now at leat, don't use AC3 audio encoding because the way Encore is doing it, it won't pass the replicators verification process.

Also one other thing I discovered (the hard way):

If you transcode some files for authoring (i.e. build a disc) and then change the name of the project (I do incremental version numbers when I do major revisions) even if you delete all the files in the transcode folder for that particular project the transcode function for any given file links back to where it did the encode originally.

By "build a disk," I assume you are referring to any process for transcoding, including, "transcode now."

Did you get around this by using the "locate transcoded file"?

                            • 11. Re: Encore CS5.1 Blu-ray Replication Problem - Master Failed BDA Compliance Testing

Well, not really with the "locate transcode file" because the project included a whole bunch of stuff (3 versions of the movie, 4 videos, and 14 slideshow videos) and it wasn't practical to locate transcoded file for each element.  Instead I would delete the whole transcode directory of files thus forcing it to retranscode everything (trying to swap trancscoded AC3 files with PCM files).  I figured that by deleting the trancodes in the transcode directory I'd be good to go.  I burned an image and sent it off for replication.  It got rejected because there were still two AC3 files in the project.  That is when I discovered a couple of timelines I hadn't touched since a few versions back and they linked to the offending AC3 files which weren't deleted because they weren't in the Transcode directory of that project.  I then used the "revert to original" option on those videos.

Sign of the time that computing power allows that much re-transcoding vs relinking. How cool!

You could keep all the old transcodes and revert to original on all of them.

"Locate Transcoded File" allows selecting multiples, but I have not tested whether it will "find" them all in the directory you point them to.

Points to the need for a robust "save a copy as" and/or backup method for Encore.
