illustrator cs6 vs creative cloud version

    rberchin Community Member

I'm a bit confused. I have a registered copy of CS6 Master Collection and joined Creative Cloud using the discount one year membership to try it out. If I go to the APP section of CC it shows that some of the cs6 apps are installed but others don't show as being installed, although they are (Premiere, Photoshop are two examples). Why is that? Also you are showing an update "exclusive to CC members" for illustrator cs6 but I don't see how to access that. Do I install the CC version of illustrator over my existing cs6 version? But illustrator is showing as one the apps that is installed on my computer. Can someone clarify, please?

      Thanks

          Hi Rberchin,

Any of the apps installed as part of Master Collection should be unavailable to install as part of Creative Cloud. I would recommend just uninstalling MC CS6 temporarily to try out Creative Cloud.

Thank you for getting back to me. I'll take your suggestion and uninstall illustrator and then reinstall from creative cloud. But you might be interested to know that all applications from MC CS6 were installed on my machine. After joining CC and launching the application manager some applications were shown as installed but others were not. Photoshop and premiere were most definitely installed with MC but they appeared in the manager as uninstalled.

I did what you suggested: I uninstalled Illustrator from my system and then reinstalled from CC, then performed the updates...still no Package. Is all this really ready for prime time, or am I just wasting money being a member of CC?

                Hi Ron,

I was able to recreate the first issue, downloading/installing a trial of MC CS6 and then installing Adobe Application Manager and checking to see what programs were installed, it had the install option for Photoshop and Premiere even though they were already installed.

I wasn't able to recreate the Illustrator issue though, going to Help > Updates did give me the option to download and install the Creative Cloud specific Illustrator update.

I'm going to report the first issue. You might need to work with our support on the second issue.

I heard from someone else at Adobe and he said I have to deactivate the MC and then install from CC. It didn't work exactly as he predicted but it did work.

I have the same issue. After joining CC I show my some of my CS6 Design & Web Premium and Production Premium versions show as installed and others as not installed in AAM. Should I deactivate all and Re-install? And, If I go back to these versions do I have to re-install those from the original installers.

I don't believe you have to deactivate each application that you originally installed from disc. Ay least I didn't. I deactivated one...I believe Illustrator and then reinstalled from CC. That seemed to do the trick. It's my opinion that CC is still very much a work in progress, although for the most part I'm satisfied. I do think Adobe could do a better job of communicating the details, which is where the devil resides. In my original query on this subject I received different responses from different people at Adobe, so even they aren't clear on the details. Clearly, the transition peiod will have it's issues. For example, after deactivating Illustrator, as I explained, installing from CC gave me the CC version with the addons; however, the application manager continued to show some applications as "installed" and some available for download...despite the fact that all were installed. I just went ahead and installed the ones that the application manager said were not installed (although they were) and everything seems to be fine. I update whenever updates are available. If you choose to stop your subscription to CC then I believe you would need to probably uninstall the apps and reinstall from original discs, but I'll leave it to Adobe to weigh in on that.
