1. Re: Is there a way to send a composition directly to Media Encoder from After Effects? Similar to 'Add t
Greg Baber Sep 26, 2012 1:38 PM (in response to mlfix)AE has to composite the footage first before it can be sent to the media encoder. You can drop the After Effects project file directly into the Media Encoder, which will dynamically link to After Effects for the compositing.
Do you mind if I ask what your workflow is and what you are trying to accomplish?

mlfix Sep 26, 2012 1:59 PM (in response to Greg Baber)When you say I can drop the file into the encoder, is that from the desktop or from AE?
I'm basically trying to continue my work ie. edting my comps. As I move on to the next, I'd like the previous comp to render in ME.
I'm doing exercise clips where often times I need to go back and change things so I'd like the file to be rendered in the background while I work on others.
Thanks!

3. Re: Is there a way to send a composition directly to Media Encoder from After Effects? Similar to 'Add t
Tim Kurkoski Sep 26, 2012 5:30 PM (in response to mlfix)You can drag the project file from your desktop into the AME Queue panel, and it will load the project and let you choose the comp.
Probably easier is that you can drag the comp directly from the Project panel in AE to the Queue panel in AME. If you don't have both apps visible at the same time, you can start the drag action and then ALT+tab over to AME before releasing the mouse button. On Mac you can also drag onto the dock icon and hold for a second or two to get AME to come forward.
The only caveat for adding an AE comp is that you must save the project first. If the AE project hasn't been saved to disk yet, you'll get an error, or if you haven't saved your latest changes you'll get whatever version was last saved to disk.
Otherwise, there's no "send to AME" function built inside of AE. Please feel free to submit a feature request.
