Cannot save from tif to jpg

      Hello

I'm having a problem saving a nautical chart from tif to jpg.

I'm trying to make a small copy of a nautical chart to put it into MS Word for a report I'm making on a tide and ocean waves study for a petroleum company (my client).

When I choose - save as, sometimes I get the JPEG option available and sometimes I don't.

I don't know why. Could someone help please?

      I'm using photoshop cs3 extended.

I suspect you may be working in a mode other than RGB, CMYK or Grayscale when Save As JPEG is unavailable.

Also, it's possible that CS3 requires you to manually convert 16-bit and 32-bit documents to 8-bit for Save As JPEG to become available.

Look in menu Image > Mode to see/change the modes.

            That's confirmed.

Photoshop CS5, I believe it was, added the ability to save an 8 bit JPEG As A Copy from a 16 bit document.  To this day you still have to convert the mode of a 32 bit document to a smaller bit depth for the Save As JPEG option to show.

              Hello Conroy

Thank you, it was in mode, indexed color.

Thats how the nautical chart had come from the scanner.

              Thanks! You guys are awesome.
