I understand via your other post that you're using Fireworks CS4. Did you upgrade to Mountain Lion (10.8) from Snow Leopard (10.6)? The reason I ask is that problems with the eyedropper color picker were listed as a known issue for Lion (10.7):
Recently, there've been reports of eyedropper color picker problems with Fireworks CS6 on Mountain Lion, but in those cases, the colors are a slight mismatch (likely indicating a color management issue), which is different from what you're experiencing.
I don't know Adobe's official position on this, but I believe that CS4 was targeted towards Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5, and I suspect they may have dropped support for it, in terms of making sure it works with new operating systems.
I think you'll see a slight color mismatch when using the following workaround, but give it a try:
(Actually, there may be more than one workaround suggested in the above article.)
Yes, CS4. I am not sure from where I upgraded, but I think you are right because I had to order a previous version of OSX from Mac, before being able to upgrade to 10.8. So I may have been using 10.5 or 10.6 before when everything worked.
So do you think they just won't fix it? Do you think a newer CS might work with 10.8? Because I see that the other person that posted about this isse has CS6.......
I am going to try the workaround you suggested......
OH MY GOD!!!! You are a savior!!!!! The workaround is perfect. I'm just glad there was one! Thanks SOOOO much!!!
I'm glad that was helpful!
The newer CS versions should work with Mac OS 10.8, but there have been reported bugs as well (including with the eyedropper tool), and it's not clear when those will be addressed. An acknowledgement of known issues by Adobe would be helpful in that regard.
The System Requirements of a version give you a good idea of the intended operating system, like this one for CS6:
Occasionally, I think I've seen official statements from Adobe about what operating systems are supported for a particular version, or vice versa.
