1. Re: CS6 AME on PC shuts down Media Core and reports unknown encoder errors. Unusable
Mark Mapes Oct 2, 2012 11:35 AM (in response to lasvideo)Do you get the same error using either
- a system QT/h.264 preset? If not, then please provide a copy of your custom preset.
- a different source clip (please try with both another DNxHD clip and with a another type of clip.)

2. Re: CS6 AME on PC shuts down Media Core and reports unknown encoder errors. Unusable
lasvideo Oct 2, 2012 11:45 AM (in response to Mark Mapes)Hi Mark, it is a custom preset that is displayed in the first image above. And yes, I have tried 2 different source files. Not sure how to send you the preset.
They work fine on my Mac Pro, but not on the PC. This is a new system with everything updated today and I even uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime for Windows.
Also once the Media Core shuts down, I cant do any exporting from PrP either.
The system was running fine wiht no issues until today. No new software has been installed other then CS6 and QT.

lasvideo Oct 2, 2012 11:47 AM (in response to lasvideo)Uninstalled and reinstalled QuickTime for Windows. Media Core still shuts down.

4. Re: CS6 AME on PC shuts down Media Core and reports unknown encoder errors. Unusable
lasvideo Oct 2, 2012 11:57 AM (in response to lasvideo)OK Mark. I tried out the You Tube MP4 H.264 preset and the Quicktime H.264 preset and they work fine. There must be something that the AME doesnt like about my custom preset. You can see all the parameters that comprise it in Pix 1 above.

5. Re: CS6 AME on PC shuts down Media Core and reports unknown encoder errors. Unusable
Mark Mapes Oct 2, 2012 12:02 PM (in response to lasvideo)The screenshot shows only the video parameters, and trying to repro by creating my own custom preset risks getting the critical setting "wrong."
To send me your preset, select it in AME's Preset Browser and click the Export Presets button just to the left of the Search box (folder icon with the arrow pointing out). Email the resulting .epr file to me at mapes [at] adobe *dot* com.

7. Re: CS6 AME on PC shuts down Media Core and reports unknown encoder errors. Unusable
Mark Mapes Oct 2, 2012 2:05 PM (in response to lasvideo)Using your custom preset, I had no problem encoding three DNxHD 1080i30 clips (I don't have any DNxHD 1080P24 content handy).
Two things worth trying:
- Save a brand new custom preset. Start with one of the system presets (like "HD 1080i 29.97, H.264, AAC 48kHz"). Tweak one setting at a time and then try the preset. This is especially worth trying if your current custom preset was originally created in an earlier version of AME.
- Reinstall the Avid DNxHD codec pack. If in your tests you succeeded in encoding DNxHD clips to other QT/h.264 presets, then the codec is not likely to be the culprit, but it's a quick test to try.
You noted above that "yes, I have tried 2 different source files," but you didn't report the results. I presume they failed, too, but best to confirm that...

8. Re: CS6 AME on PC shuts down Media Core and reports unknown encoder errors. Unusable
lasvideo Oct 2, 2012 2:28 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)I had problems on the PC and no problems on the Mac doing the very same task. Are you on a PC? If not, you wont expereince the problem.
The custom preset was built today in this newest version of AME starting with an existing template and altering to taste. The difference btween the Adobe presets I tested with and the one I created is they are MP4 and mine was Quicktime.
The DNxHD was successfully encoded using the MP4 version of the H264 preset. The DNxHD was unsuccessfully encoded using the Quicktime version of the H264 preset.
The 2 clips we spoke about earlier (one is DNxHD the other is not) both failed using the QT preset.
One difference between my preset and the existing ones from Adobes (beside Adobes is MP4 and mine is QuickTime) is at the bottom of the panel. I dont check options for keyframes or data rates.

9. Re: CS6 AME on PC shuts down Media Core and reports unknown encoder errors. Unusable
Mark Mapes Oct 2, 2012 2:34 PM (in response to lasvideo)I tested on two PCs running Windows 7 Enterprise, one with PPRO/AME CS6.0.0, the other with 6.0.2. No failures on either of them.
Have you tried any of the Quicktime system presets that use the h.264 codec? You should have 5 of them in the list of QT presets.
Also, have you tried with Key Frame enabled, with Limit Data Rate enabled, and with both enabled?

10. Re: CS6 AME on PC shuts down Media Core and reports unknown encoder errors. Unusable
lasvideo Oct 2, 2012 2:41 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)Im running Win 7 Pro but Im sure that would have nothing to do with it.
I will try your additional suggestions the next opportunity I have and will let you know the results. Thanks for your time today.
Could GPUs have any influence on this? I have a Nvidia PNY GTX 570 with 1.2 GB memory.

11. Re: CS6 AME on PC shuts down Media Core and reports unknown encoder errors. Unusable
lasvideo Oct 2, 2012 4:14 PM (in response to lasvideo)1. Just applied Adobe Broadcasr / H.264 / HD 1080i 29.97 preset.
a. Quality altered to 100 - Keyframe and Bitrate not desire so turned off - Frame rate changed to 23.976 and Progressive
b. Media Core stopped working
2. Just applied Adobe Broadcasr / H.264 / HD 1080i 29.97 preset.
a. Quality altered to 100 - Kept keyframe on Keyframe every 90 frames and Bitrate turned off - Frame rate changed to 23.976 and Progressive
b. Media Core stopped working
2. Just applied Adobe Broadcasr / H.264 / HD 1080i 29.97 preset.
a. Quality altered to 100 - Turned keyframe off frames and Bitrate turned on set to 10000 - Frame rate changed to 23.976 and Progressive
b. Media Core stopped working
This is really turning into a major problem. I need to be able to generate QT for my clients to view. Im using a very expersnive HP Z820 which is enthusiastically promoted by Adobe. AME is unable to functionally make any h.264 Quicktime movies.

12. Re: CS6 AME on PC shuts down Media Core and reports unknown encoder errors. Unusable
lasvideo Oct 8, 2012 2:54 PM (in response to lasvideo)System Fixed!! Can now encode to QT when necessary.
Its not only fixed but Tuned Up and running better then ever. I got a hold of the smartest computer wizard I know and he did an amazing job of tracking down the issues and configuring my system.
This GENIUS is none other then Eric Bowen from ADK. I stand in awe of his smarts. It was worth every penny to not only get it fixed, but tweaked to perfection.
Some of the possible issues related to...
1. Windows did an update and replaced the Nvidia drivers for the GTX 570 with its own version unbeknownst to me. Not good.
2. Had to create a New User since its seemed the old one might have been corrupted.
3. There were multiple redundant C++ files that were the results of upgrades and installs of various software. Definately problematic.
And on top of that Eric gave me the ADK "Platinum" (my name) tune up of the HP Z820. Today it sings.
Thanks again Eric!
