    Huh?! No Tape/Reel in Prelude?

    Dan Wolfe Community Member

so I recently used Prelude to ingest a large amount of footage and was shocked to find out that in Prelude and Premiere there is no info for tape/reel recorded?

my workflow in FCP7 was to always backup camera cards to a unique folder using ShotPut Pro, and each camera card backup was the camera file structure inside of a folder named the date & camera, etc.  this folder name would become the reel name in FCP L&T so I can always go back to my original camera cards in the event that I need to transcode to a diff codec, etc.  heck, I can even export an XML from FCP and when opened in PPro CS6 I have tape info.

I was hoping to replace ShotPut Pro with Prelude, thinking that my primary copy destination would be my ProRes transcodes for FCP & PPro CS6 and my two additional copy destinations would be my camera original backups (AVCHD & P2).  then depending on project needs I can either start working in premiere or export an XML for FCP.  but how can I be confident that I can always track back to my originals if Prelude isn't recording reel info?  How can Prelude be billed as a ingest & logging tool if it omits this crucial info?

am I missing something?  seems like the subfolder option in the ingest window should actually be something more like 'create reel folder'
