In CS5 if I choose the either the Transform or Free Transform tools (having created a new layer for the image) I get an error message saying ‘could not transform because the initial bounding rectangle is empty’. I’ve used the Transform tool successfully in the past and have checked through the Adobe instructions carefully (there isn’t much to them really) and I cannot see what’s wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
Please don’t call something a Tool which is not named a Tool in Photoshop.
Is a Selection active?
Does the selected Layer definitely contain content?
Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?
Did you fill the layer with something or is it like the message states empty? Free Transform work on layers that contain pixels if a layer is emtpy there is nothing there to be transformed..
Thanks for your input guys. It was really helpful and got me thinking. The problem was that I created a new layer, which Transform doesn't work with. When I dragged the background layer into new layer to create a background copy Transform works OK. It doesn't say that in the Adobe user guide. Thanks again. Bill
