Unable to install RoboSource Control on server

    mlouie Community Member
We are trying to use the Robohelp Source Control so we installed the Roboengine on the server. That doesn't seem adequate as the users cannot connect to the database (it is asking for a username and password and we have no idea what to fill in). So we tried installing RoboSource Control on the server but I can't get it to install. The server is Windows Server 2003 SP1. At the end of the install, I get a message that the "wizard was interrupted before RoboSource Control could be completely installed". So I tried installing the whole thing--RoboHelp Office as well, but the install just quits at the end with no error but nothing is installed. It's like it installs it and then it deletes it. What do I have to do to get RoboSource Control working on the server?

Hi mlouie and welcome to the community

Unfortunately I'll have to defer to others for specifics on getting RoboSource Control loaded on the server. I'm not 100% sure it's possible without the "Connectivity Pack".

So I hear you thinking: Well that's just dandy. Thanks for that wonderful tidbit of information. Why then did you post?

I posted because your initial post seems to indicate you believe RoboEngine is required for RoboSource Control. This is totally incorrect. RoboEngine has a totally different purpose and is in no way connected to RoboSource Control other than the fact that both begin with the word "Robo".

          Cheers... Rick

            mlouie,

RoboSource Control is mainly a service running silently on the server. During installation, RoboSource Control Explorer is installed, too. You should be able to see an entry RoboSource Control under Start > All Programs.

Unfortunately I can't recall the specifics of the installation procedure, only that you have to indeed install the RHO package beforehand; you may later on uninstall it again.

Concerning the service, use the Start > Administrative Tool > Services command and look for a service named RoboSource Control. Does it appear on the list of services?

            Greetings

              What is the connectivity pack?

No, the RoboSource Control service is not installed on the server after I run the install program. There also is no entry for RoboSource Control under All Programs (or anywhere on the start menu). I can't install RHO beforehand because it doesn't work. The install doesn't install. It appears to install but then for some reason it appears to delete everything it installed and then all the windows go away and I am left at the desktop.

                Hi mlouie

I am probably mistaken about the connectivity pack. I spoke with a colleague and he thinks the connectivity pack is only required if you are wanting to host the RoboEngine on a Microsoft SQL server.

Have you perused fellow Adobe Community Expert and fellow Certified RoboHelp Instructor John Daigle's Developer Center article? You can view it by clicking this way cool and super handy little link right here

                Sorry if I confused matters...

I think check that you have the latest SP for your server.  We had the same problem, only we were trying to install on a Windows2000 server.  The installer for the technical communications suite does not work on anything but Windows XP or greater or the latest version of Windows 2003 Server.

If you have  a standalone version of Robohelp, I understand that installer will work on the server.  I ended up opening a ticket with Adobe, and they sent me a stand along robosource installer that installs on the server.

So, make sure you have the latest SP.  If you do, and are using the TCS installer, then open a ticket with adobe and ask them to send you the standalone installer for Robosource
