I've come with the same issue myself. I love Adobe Edge and i find it dead easy to make wonderful stuff there, though making it work in Wordpress has become a challenge. I followed the instructions in this video and in this guide and they seem to work only if you happen to use wordpress with a plain theme with no fancy jquery animations and functionality using these libs. I tried intergrating an Edge animation in my wordpress site, though because i happen to use a theme with a slider which uses jquery, when following the instructions step by step then neither the slider worked neither the edge animation itself. I found somewhere that you need to edit some .js libs using the noconflict mode though that did not work either (it was an example for joomla).
I tried installing the Edge Suite wordpress plugin which is still in developing stage. You need to export your Edge composition using the File > Publish tool found in edge in order to import the .aom files. Unfortunatelly no luck with that. I'm still looking for a solution in order to make animations for my website. I sent a tweet to Adobe Edge and they refered me to the support forums. Uhg!
I'm sure there's a workaorund using the .js libraries. Im not experienced with them so i'll have to wait for a solution to come about. I'm sorry for not helping though be sure to check the links above
I'm the maintainer of Edge Suite for wordpress. Could you let me know in more detail what kind of problems you did experience. That would be great as I'm trying to fix all kind of bugs right now. I have written up a tutorial (http://edgedocks.com/content/edge-suite-integrate-edge-animate-wordpress) on how to integrate Edge Animtions with wordpress, maybe that helps?
I have written an iframe renderer which I'll commit next week, this should reduce a lot of sideeffects with other JS scripts.
I have used your plugin but I keep getting a parse error and permissions error, but even after changing my permissions in the FTP to 777 for the plugin files I get nothing, I tried the plugin on another site and don't get the error for the same file, but I don't get anything usually (it fails to show up that it even tried to upload) or it says unable to get stage name.
I would love to use the plugin if I could get it to work, if you have any suggestions that would be amazing (I run on thesis theme).
-When did you use the plugin? Do you have the latest version from a couple of days ago? Did you use Edge Animate 1.0 to publish the OAM?
-If possible, can you sent me the oam file? Then I could check if this works in my setup. Problems with the stage name are gone for so time now...
-Can you tell me what the exact error messages are? Try to remove all directories and everything, create the main edge_suite folder and then set it to 777, or try to set the subfolders to 777 as well. Do you see the notice when being on the manage overview page ("The owner of the scripts (most likely your FTP user) is different... ")
Thanks for trying to make this work
I appreciate your work on this wordpress plugin. I'm so excited to make things on edge though the intergration process with wordpress themes that already use jquery libs is problematic. Eitherways i read in other forums that the iframe fixes these conflict issues. Anyway i tried following your guide, making a plain edge animation and publish as an oam file and i get the msg "Unable to parse stage name from main edge file". I'm really looking forward to your iframe fix next week. I will be checking your site for updates and help. Thanks
The problem is that iframe won't help you as it doesn't look like the composition gets uploaded. Can you check if any directroies get created anywhere inside the edge_suite folder? What hoster are you on? Do you see the above mentioned message "The owner of the scripts...." on the manage page. So far I'm not sure what's happening, so I need to have more info to see if we are running into permission problems.
Can you maybe try to use the OAM file from the tutorial and see what happens with that: http://edgedocks.com/sites/default/files/hungry_edge.oam
If you still get the stage parse error I need to check where that is coming from and implement even more permission error checks. Adjusting to all the different server setups has so far been the biggest challange.
I'm having similar problems with Edge Suite WP plugin (v. 0.3 updated 10/5/12):
Unable to parse stage name from main edge file
Warning: file_get_contents(/home/xxxxx/public_html/wp-content/uploads/edge_suite/edge_tmp/src_1350 421038/Assets/index_edge.js) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/xxxxx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/edge-suite/includes/edge-suite-comp-builder.inc on line 403
Permissions for edge_tmp are set to 777.
I've followed the Edge Docks tutorial (as far as I could).
Is there any solution you can recommend?
thanks for the additional infos. I think I figured out what went wrong. Changing file permissions after oam extraction doesn't always seem to work so default server file permissions are used which in some cases are a bit strange I guess. I have tried to fix this in the svn trunk. It would be great if you could test this version. Just delete the plugin files on the server and use the one from the zip:
Hope this will fix it. Thanks for testing.
Tim your edge suite plugin works as a gem now. I made a test composition and exported it to oam, it uploaded with no problems. I just used the short code [edge_animation id="1"] and walla it showed on my frontpage with no coflict whatsoever with my jquery slider.
Now at last i can make stuff on edge and see them on action on my wordpress sites
Tim thanks a lot, i hope edge suite plugins works for more complex animations, because i only tested a simple one.
This is my report from a happy Greek ready to start to make nice stuff from now on.
Awesome, that's great to hear. More complex compositions should work as well as the process is the same. For critical cases which might conflict with other JS scripts I've written an iframe renderer. I'll add the documenation for it to the tutorial.
Thnaks for testing, let me know if anything else doesn't work. I'll push the dev version of the plugin to the stable release later today.
Alright so when I added the new files to plugin a few days ago it worked: www.totallybollywood.com/ok but now when I try to actually upload it on the site where it needs to be rosssveback.com, (I downloaded the newest version .4 for that, clicked upload and then the same thing happens, I get the upload time, and the file goes, but when it hits 100% and refreshes, no file actually appears to upload, and no error message appears either. I've tried different OAM files, going to see about the hungry one you linked to. Do you think another plugin or something could be causing it to malfunction?
The new update seems to have resolved my "unable to parse stage name" issues.
Works perfectly now.
