I have a project that is about 500 unique product tags and some tags have more info that others. The changes are given to me in an excel file from the client. I would like to use variable text boxes via the indesign data merge.
What I am trying to figure out is if there is a way to create boxes that automatically resizes text. Because currently I have to go through each tag and change everything by hand. Which is really time consuming.
So ideally I would like to be able to give a box a set demension and give it a minimum and maxium text size then merge the documents and have the type fit in boxes without the tedious manually adjusting.
Does anyone know of a plugin or a script that could help me out?
if you're talking about changing the size of the BOX to fit text which stays the same size, this can be accomplished in cs6 using Persistent text frame fitting options (Set frames to grow with additional text, based on simple parameters. Expand and shrink frames automatically for headlines, callouts, or other variable content) (obtained from http://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/features.html).
if you're talking about changing the size of the TEXT to fit a box which is fixed, then there's a trick with GREP styles that I wrote about on my blog, along with a download of a pdf/indd of how it was done. http://colecandoo.wordpress.com/2012/02/18/square-pegs-now-fit-into-round-holes/
hope this helps
