More ram would help, but I see no mention of your graphics cards and if you are running the most current drivers.
Firewire is a pretty slow way to connect to a raid. But that might not be as much of an issue with AE as it would with PrP.
What does "runs to a halt" mean? Does it crash or....?
Cache should be on whatever is your fastest drive.
Runs to a halt refers to the sentences that follow. I pretty much no longer work in realtime - 15-30 seconds for frame to update and have to render out the video for a preview as opposed to RAM preview.
My graphics card is unfortunately the AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB. I'm not running anything that would use CUDA so I'm not sure how much this affects performance.
It looks like my G-Raid is slightly faster so I'll switch to that.
Any other thoughts?
Anyone else have input?
32GB of ram and getting the media drive off Firewire will be your only real upgrades/improvements for this. An IMac is going to struggle with AE if the comps are not simple and short.
