SFS-DPS Oct 15, 2012 8:30 AM (in response to SFS-DPS)Hello Still having this issue....Can anyone address this for me please....Seems to be an issue with PDF format in combination with v23.

3. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Levine Oct 15, 2012 8:38 AM (in response to SFS-DPS)There are indeed known issues with PDF folios but the only one I know of has to do with pinch and zoom.
Can you post some screen captures from InDesign and the ipad?

4. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Bringhurst Oct 15, 2012 8:42 AM (in response to SFS-DPS)I believe this is the same issue as the background changing to white in v23 scrollable frames. If you turn off Pinch & Zoom in the custom viewer, this change will likely go away. Use the DPS App Builder to create a viewer without Pinch & Zoom, and check to see whether this problem occurs in the development viewer.
If it's related to the same bug I mentioned, it will be fixed in v24.

5. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 15, 2012 9:20 AM (in response to Bob Levine)Ok. See below...
Upper right hand corner there should be a red star....It sometime turns Gray as if falling behing the gray map. (Seems like a layering issue once memory is taxed)
The other example is that the text in the sam mso loads red...But it is only after flipping through the app quite a bit. (memory)
Also attached is the way that the text should look...All Gray.
What do you think?

6. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 15, 2012 9:22 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Pinch and Zoom is disabled. I have experienced the pinch turn white issue. Could be related but not if the pinch off buttons is suppose to resolve.
Thanks.
Let me know what you think?

8. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 15, 2012 9:56 AM (in response to Bob Levine)I have gotten it to show up on 1 2 and 3. If you quit the app and restart, it goes away then use the app for a while and it reappears but usualy in a diferent article.

10. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Levine Oct 16, 2012 5:52 AM (in response to SFS-DPS)Just to eliminate it, what if you create the folio using PNG?
Bob
-
11. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 16, 2012 7:55 AM (in response to Bob Levine)I think that does eliminate it but then the Text in the mso is rasterized on the ipad 3?
-
12. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 16, 2012 8:47 AM (in response to Bob Levine)Bob do you think this is somthing that could be fixed in an update or is it just a limitation of pdf?

13. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Levine Oct 16, 2012 10:26 AM (in response to SFS-DPS)Your asking the wrong Bob. Perhhaps Bob B. will be along with some ideas.

15. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Bringhurst Oct 17, 2012 6:55 AM (in response to SFS-DPS)Can you make the source files available to me? We can't reproduce the issue. I'm bbringhu at adobe.com.

16. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 17, 2012 7:46 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)I can but the files will be huge? Can I ftp them to you?

17. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 17, 2012 7:54 AM (in response to SFS-DPS)I just shared the folio with you in the content viewer..... Earth as Art.
Im in the middle of trying to find a work around so let me know it you experience it on your ipad.
-
18. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 17, 2012 8:29 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Well my work around may have solved the gray star issue but the red text still shows up. The gray star was on a map that was a transparence.....So I got rid of the transparence and that seemed to fix that ....The red text is still there however.
-
19. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 17, 2012 8:37 AM (in response to SFS-DPS)Skratch that.... the red star still turns gray.
-
20. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Bringhurst Oct 17, 2012 8:59 AM (in response to SFS-DPS)We'll check out the shared folio to see if we can reproduce the bug. I'll get back to you if the tester needs a few source files.
By the way, your photographs are incredible. Love the design.

21. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 17, 2012 9:15 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Cool thanks. We were actually trying to get Adobe to give us some PR...aiming for a november release.
Thanks for your help Bob!

22. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Bringhurst Oct 17, 2012 10:06 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)I've been browsing through the folio, swiping and tapping and rotating, and there's nothing I can do to see the red dot turn grey or the grey text turn red. I also downloaded your update, so perhaps your fix worked. Are you still seeing problems? If so, try uninstalling the viewer, syncing, and then reinstalling the viewer.
And let me know when you're ready to publish.

23. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 17, 2012 10:16 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Still seeing it comes and goes.....Ipad 1 and 3. Did the app quit at all when you were fussing with it?
-
24. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 17, 2012 10:39 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Ok....SO deleted from itunes and synced...then reuploaded and still getting red. I would re build again but it has been pretty consistent in many builds todate....Im going to send you a FTP to download and have a look. Once we get a work around or a conclusion we can push to apple....Thanks for you help so far. Look for the FTP.
-
25. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Bringhurst Oct 17, 2012 11:21 AM (in response to SFS-DPS)Got the FTP. Thanks. I downloaded the shared folio on both an iPad 1 and an iPad 3, and I can't reproduce the problem. I've been tapping and pinching and zooming like a mad fiend, and still nothing.
Do you have a bunch of apps loaded in memory? You might try double-tapping the Home button and clearing apps from the tray and restarting your iPad.
Are you seeing these issues in both the Adobe Content Viewer and a custom development app?
-
26. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 17, 2012 11:49 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)I clear memory. The issue goes away then I flick through lots of pages and the issue reapears. getting it in content viewer and in ipa test?
-
27. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 17, 2012 12:02 PM (in response to SFS-DPS)I should say that when it happens it seems to happen in the same general location and it seems to affect a whole article at a time. Mostly the Oceania text turns red...and central and east Asia seems to have the stars turn gray.
-
28. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Bringhurst Oct 17, 2012 2:27 PM (in response to SFS-DPS)OK, I've been able to crash the app on the iPad1 and see some blank areas over the MSO area while zooming in on the image pan on the iPad3. The tester of this area is swamped right now with work on the next release, but we'll take a closer look when we get the chance. Thanks again for sending the source files.
One way to improve performance of folios with memory issues is to break up memory-intensive articles with static articles. That might not work well with your design, but perhaps you could try putting dummy articles between the Oceania articles to see if this fixes the problem.

29. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 18, 2012 4:50 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Ok. Ill keep messing with it. Let me know if the testers get back to you.

30. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 18, 2012 12:48 PM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Bob,
- I have stepped back looked at all the links in each indesign file. I fond that the map was CMYK. So I corrected that to RGB.—Still got red text and Gray Star to appear.
- Then I Converted the map link AI. file to Raster in illustrator.—Still got red text and Gray Star to appear.
- Next I followed your advise and inserted the Static pages before each Article.—Still got red text and Gray Star to appear.
- I have completely rebuild the app with all the correction above—Still got red text and Gray Star to appear.
I will continue to look for a work around to maintain this PDF format so it will look good on all ipads. But I wanted to update you.
Also Since the source files have changes Id like to send the new batch for testing. I will also reshare the published folio with you if thats ok?
-
31. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Bringhurst Oct 18, 2012 2:04 PM (in response to SFS-DPS)Yes, please send the new batch, and I'll download them.
As I mentioned, I can't reproduce the red text/gray star no matter what I do, but if I swipe to a new article and pan and zoom before the article loads completely, the white area of the MSO appears.
Have you tried turning off transparency in your MSO? I'll experiement with that.
Also, from a user standpoint, I prefer tapping the same place to open and close the info pop-up. Have you considered creating an invisible button with a Go To Next State action over the Info/Close buttons?

32. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 19, 2012 7:07 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)New files on there way. Folio Re shared.
Thanks for the suggestion on the mso.
I will try to test the no transparence suggestion and get back to you.
Thanks again.
My client is anxious for me to solve this.

33. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 26, 2012 6:46 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Hi Bob, Just wanted to check in and see if the test crew found anything yet?
-
34. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Bringhurst Oct 26, 2012 2:28 PM (in response to SFS-DPS)Neither of us have had time to look at it more closely. Can you compress your pan and zoom images a little more?
-
35. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 31, 2012 11:21 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)I guess I could try that but I think if I compress any more i will loose image detail.
Also, (UPDATE)
The MSO stage that had a transparency "90% white box"; If I go through and change all those to 100% so there is no transparency the issue does not resolve it self. in this instance I still ge the gray star and red text.
Hmmm...So when will v24 come out? I'm wondering if like you originally thought if this would be resolved with the pinch and zoom pdf bug that is suppose to be resolved?
-
36. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Oct 31, 2012 11:31 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)I will attempt a bit more compression and let you know!
-
37. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
Bob Bringhurst Oct 31, 2012 1:52 PM (in response to SFS-DPS)v24 is scheduled to release November 8. I hope that release resolves your gray/red issues, which we haven't been able to reproduce. Still, I think using a full-screen pan and zoom image along with a half-screen MSO on every page is probably more than the iPad 1 can handle in terms of memory.
-
38. Re: MSO TEXT TURNS RED?
SFS-DPS Nov 9, 2012 10:09 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst)Just wanted to update this. V24 still has red text and gray star issue. Although I had a white hairline issue that did disappear.
Guess our content is just to heavy for the ipads memory.
